bleeding heavily after smear

I had a smear on Wed and had some minor spotting/ cramping. Late yesterday severe period type cramping and heavy bleeding. It is like a typical period for me ( heavy) not due on for another 10 days though. I'm wondering if smear could of kickstarted my period? It was a repeat smear due to insufficient cells so nurse was a bit firm.

You can sometimes have quite heavy bleeding after a smear. I remember I had it done once and I had soaked through my clothes by the time I got home. It was awful. It's just one of those weird things. The tissue on the cervix can be quite sensitive and it's not hard for a blood vessel to burst (happened to me when pregnant as well and bled a lot, midwives confirmed it came from the cervix, not my uterus). Hopefully it stops soon.

Not worth bothering the gp about then?

I'd still go to GP. Any unusual bleeding should be checked out.

Small amount of spotting is normal. Heavy bleeding or if it lasts more than 24 hours definitely contact or GP.
