Looking to downsize, tell me about Oakham and surrounding areas

Hi, we are looking to downsize in the next few years.
Currently in a 5 bed, large kitchen diner, conservatory and garden.
Kids have left home and we just don't need the space. Family spread out so looking around Rutland area, primarily Oakham.
Never been but pictures look nice and seems a good place.
So can anyone give me some more info. I understand it has a train station. what about local shops etc.
Like I say, its just an idea at the moment. Preferably looking at a large 2 bed or smaller 3 bed.
Only must haves are a large garden for our dogs.
I'm retiring soon and Dh works from home. Budget ideally between £200000 - £250000

Oakham is lovely.

What sort if shows do you want to know about? It has a Tescos, Coop, Lidl, Aldi and a little M&S Food. Lots of independents in the High Street and some chains. Big Wilkos. Market twice a week, plus a farmers market. Lovely bakery, and good independent food stores. Still has bank branches

Plenty going on, especially when the school is open normally (concerts, plays) and good access to lots of sports. Pop up cinema at the museum.
