@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind
That's a very good summary of 2020 so far. "Be kind" is missing from February, followed by "Grass up your neighbour for simply existing," in April, but I like it.

Willow2017 · 05/09/2020 11:25

Loving the poems.

At a garden centre. Cafe is now table service only! You have to use one of those QR codes at the table or in my case go on thier website and order and pay and use your phone for T&T. Damm. Better be worth it.
I didn't risk putting in wrong number in case it screwed up the whole order or a red flashing light descended from the ceiling going off like klaxon😄😄😄
Inside the shop is pretty relaxed though thank goodness just lots of sanitizer.
Saw some lovely plants on way in wish I had somewhere to put them in my house! Need plants for outside pots and they have a big fruit and veg shop next door I might spend too much in!

Willow2017 · 05/09/2020 11:35

Bah! Coffee is too hot and mug has stupid round handle so your finger slides into the scalding hot mug!! Paradise slice is nice though😉

I hate silly little handles that you can't grip.

I don't have many hot drinks. Some hot chocolate (if it's not too milky, it can be a gamble), fruit tea, and stock with oat milk. Oh and half hot/ half cold water. I hate tea/ coffee though Grin
But my drinks need to be in the right vessel.
Fruit teas in the finer china.
Hot chocolate/ stock in a chunky mug.

Pixel77 · 05/09/2020 12:04

I scaled myself with ultra hot tea direct from one of those scalding machines, at the National trust cafe once. Second degree burn to the foot. They went and stuck a lid on the paper cup after asked for milk tea, and told me to add milk anyway, had to prise this lid up and it spilled out.

I take more care with hot drinks now.

Justgivemewine · 05/09/2020 12:04

Love that summary Reality 😂😂

Our GP surgery has just recently resumed normal service apparently, although appointments will be as obtainable as supermarket delivery slots were in April, it’s a 2-3 week wait in normal circumstances!

willow our local garden centre car park is always packed with lots of older people coming and going. I wonder if people see it as a safe (as it’s mainly outdoors) place to go and mooch around and get out of the house for a bit.

It feels a bit weird today. I’ve not had a normal Saturday for 5 months, by normal I mean sandwiched between school weeks and a actual break from the weekday routine of school runs etc instead of just another groundhog day. Weird but in a nice way.

Justgivemewine · 05/09/2020 12:07

Oops just reread that, I wasn’t accusing you of being old willow 😆☺️

BogRollBOGOF · 05/09/2020 12:10

DS1 managed to spray us and half of McDonalds in hot chocolate last night. At least it was cool enough to drink and about the temperature of bathwater.

At the start of the year, I waz at a children's birthday (those were the days Grin ) and my friend passed me her fresh black coffee so she could deal with a toddler and it was in danger of spilling. When I took it the paper cup squidged, and it spilt on my hand. Fuck it was hot! After 2 seconds I had to drop the rest and bolt to the toilets to run under cold water. Just as well that I did as it throbbed for a few hours after despite being cooled off.

I drink black coffee but always insist that cold water is added before I move it. I drink filtered at home and that is just that bit cooler.

🤣🤣

There were a few but also families and the 'not quite so old' kike me. Not busy and everyone just milling around not bothering anyone else.

Checkout:
Don't tell me how much!
(In my head "I said don't tell me!!!!")
HOW MUCH????
Somebody ban me from bloody gardencentres ffs!
But i did manage to err "aquire" a few succulent leaves that were broken off and just lying there so hopefully a few free plants😉

justasking111 · 05/09/2020 13:58

Well the stinking cold had just reached me via grand kids, kids, none of us went for the test.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/09/2020 14:18

I'm still in my PJs psyching myself up with an energy drink. The cold never was going to be fun, but there is a bit of Covidnoia mixed in. It's a textbook cold, no symptoms to consider testing, but I don't want to be accused of Grannycide.

In a few days when the predictable cough arrives, is that "new"? (Hopefully not persistent)

Pixel77 · 05/09/2020 14:26

I know what you mean about if actually feeling like a weekend, it is nice to have some kind of definition to the week. Now the school has started back just keeping fingers crossed it will stay that way..I was kind of stressed before and with the unusual faff of getting uniform etc but now that is sorted things are better.

i am particularly enjoying how they can have school meals again so less cooking. DS2 said he tried the 'school curry' on Friday. Less pressure to make food all the time is surely good. Thankfully the school are doing usual dinners and letting them eat in the canteen instead of madly outside or something

Willow2017 · 05/09/2020 14:32

Take it easy and pamper yourself Bog.
Having another coffee after a wander around town. Lots of shops shut does covid become particularly vicious on Saturday's? Was very restrained and didn't go near the cookware shop nor charity shops I have spent enough today and I was being restrained!! Was pondering all the lovely kitchen ware in garden centre some lovely bright 'floral painted' side plates under £5 whichni resisted then laughing at some plain white 'designer' ones at £7 each!!

How 'designer' is a plain white plate?

TheOrchidKiller · 05/09/2020 14:49

It also feels a bit like an "old" Saturday here. DS has played football with his team (they lost). He said the only difference was no handshakes between players.

He's had a shower so that means no hot water left - just like old times.

DH went out to buy a paper but half of it is missing because of the Extinction Rebellion protest. It's the main section with the news that's not been printed, which is refreshing. I've watched an old episode of Grand Designs where Kevin looks about 30, & the director has gone for some edgy shots.

What's an AD?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/09/2020 15:02

Hi All!
For the first time in 9 years I said "fuck" in front of ds today....

In general I swear like a drunken sailor but have always been very conscious of my language around ds.

I made the HUGE mistake of watching bbc breakfast this morning. Newswatch was on. Apparently its not been on during the pandemic....social distancing etc (more like the quality of news has been so fucking terrible they don't want people writing in).

The host actually sat and said "we have received this email from Dave from Glossop 'dear bbc, your reporting of the covid pandemic has been exemplary. Explaining the science clearly and questioning the government and the scientists to give your watchers a balanced view." Before I knew what had fallen out of my mouth I said "have they fuck, get lost Dave"
(Disclaimer: can't remember name or location so made Dave from Glossop up).

There was also an item on there about a woman who had lost her husband last year and her dad this year. Due to lockdown support was restricted and she felt she couldn't have friends over because of the Roolz....

So someone from a charity organisation came on and talked about support group bubbles and using technology to help people like this woman.

Then there was what was supposed to be a feel good bit about people finding a way to hug others, through screens and plastic divides.

It made me so fucking angry. If my friend was suffering through bereavement I would be there for her, no question. Id be round with tea/cake/wine/whatever. Who are these people abandoning their friends in their hour of need because you know, rules??!!!!!

And hugging through shower curtains and screens??? Bbc thought it was so funny and heartwarming. I just thought how the hell can you be putting a positive spin on not being able to hug people???!!!!

STOP CELEBRATING AND NORMALISING THIS LIFE.

BillywilliamV · 05/09/2020 15:02

DD heartbroken because thought she was starting normal life at 6th Form College on Monday, told late Friday afternoon that she starts on the 14th and that half her lessons will be on-line. No clue as to what that will look like!
They have had 6 months to work this out, dont even think she wants to go anymore but too late to go anywhere else!
Just feeling sad today, cant be bothered with this shit anymore!

Pixel77 · 05/09/2020 15:31

Just went and read something in the Guardian about the terrifying nature of going back to school and seeing that children 'were not social distancing'

'I watched groups of new started being led by teachers none were distancing' etc 'only a few wearing masks'

not sure why this was such a shock considering the guidance says they don't have to distance or wear masks.

It did say the writer suffers with anxiety though so might be behind it. It stressed me out reading it, must remember not to!

Omg I could not agree more with this. It's like the voice in my head that you just articulated. People have lost all power of thought, although I notice the tide is turning. There was some hypochondriac in another thread this morning with cold symptoms thinking she had covid and was going to die and one of the posters said "had it, was the least debilitating illness I've had, just a cold". Ffs that is 99% of people. It's literally like the west has just discovered mortality
SomewhereEast · 05/09/2020 15:56

Very big yes to the West having discovered mortality. Most modern westerners live lives remarkably insulated from illness & death by historical standards (not that I'm complaining Grin). Obviously literally no one wants to go back to the good old days of rampant TB & typhus & Polio, but our relative good fortune does make us very ill-equipped to accept any kind of new risk.

AgentCooper · 05/09/2020 15:57

@Pixel77 I read that too. The teacher writing did sound pretty anxious but I admit I rolled my eyes at their use of ‘Covidiots.’

BogRollBOGOF · 05/09/2020 15:58

Dave from Glossop Grin
Glossop sounds like a likely contender!
Apparently the League of Gentlemen was created after a visit to a village around that part of the world Wink

I'm not too bad on swearing. I swear more on MN than verbally although driving is my weak spot. I have convinced the DCs that I just said "Oh bucket" after missing a junction Wink

I am quite thrilled that when DS1 is seething, he comes out raging with insults like "YOU POOPY NAPPY FACE!!!" rather than actual swear words.

Maybe I should save that one if I ever get challenged by the self-appointed mask police Grin
I've got a pack of visors mounted on glasses frames delivered today. I feel a bit crosseyed in them so far.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/09/2020 15:58

Looking at the school mask/school run/social distancing outcry and the lady complainer on the cardiff/zante flight. I wonder how much of this is down to their perception. Everywhere I go, most are wearing masks and social distancing (including on my recent flights) But I think there is a group of people who will pick out a couple of people who aren't and just focus on them. Their brain will single out those "not complying", focus on them and extrapolate that out to "no one is complying".

Does that make sense?

RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 05/09/2020 16:02

@MotherOfGremlins

What's an AD?
ADs are anti dementors.

Not that we don't take the virus seriously but that we don't believe that it will kill anyone who breaks 'the roolz'. And certainly not making up our own rules and then judging others for not following our ever more draconian measures

We do believe that we can find humour in almost any situation, that there will be a time post covid and we don't have to accept that the 'new normal' is in any way normal.

We have different views and we accept that. No name calling for someone that disagrees with you. And no putting others down for seeing things differently. Plenty of support for those ground down by or worrying about how things are. Because one thing is bad it doesn't mean we can't be upset by or need sympathy for lesser things

We are intelligent enough to do our own risk assessments (which also includes others that we may come into contact with) and don't accept that anyone who views it differently has any right to tell us what to do.
