I’ve actually had a really good, normal (as in proper normal not shit ‘new normal’) day so far today.

We have to take half our annual leave by the end of September so I decided to ease myself gently back into full time work (we’ve been on 80% pay and hours) by taking every Friday off this month.

This morning I went for a lovely long walk with the dogs, then had a fabulous riding lesson where I felt I made loads of progress. Then dh and I cycled down to our local covered market which is full of good places to eat. Fewer than 5% of people inside the market were wearing masks and we had a delicious sit down meal in a cafe and weren’t asked for any extra details for track and trace so I was feeling in a pretty sunny mood ....

Made the mistake of going onto the local chat group - lots and lots of frothing about non mask wearers 🙄

And yesterday I saw a bizarre sight - I was cycling through Richmond park, miles away from anyone else... I saw a woman hacking on her own, on a not very small horse so even if someone had come to stand right next to the horse they’d have been quite a distance from her. She was wearing a bandana tied around her face ... I can’t get my head around the thought process ... surely if the virus is so contagious she’s at risk of catching it while riding her horse on her own, then how on earth would a flimsy bit of fabric stop it?!

A poem sticking in my mind today if you amended it to suit covid care homes/elderly, sen children, cancer, etc. which a much cleverer mind than mine could surely do I think it would fit.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

WouldBeGood · 11/09/2020 16:03

@Pleasedontdothat that’s truly bizarre! Being in a horse (or anywhere near one 😃) is about a trillion times more dangerous than Covid!

Glad your day was good!

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane that’s interesting about the stats given the schools have been back for a while. Though my region is apparently infested and we’re always being ticked off and to be good at the back or you’ll spoil it for everyone 😃

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane is the candle lovely? I have fake Creed ones which are quite good for helping with the dog smell, but sometimes think I might buy a nice one

Agreed! I shudder to think of the horrifying set of circumstances that would result in being IN a horse. Grin

Dear god! 😂 oops!

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse, she`s dead of course Grin

It’s amazing. I’d never have spent that much on a candle myself - was a gift from a pal! It’s my favourite scent - Tuscan Leather.

It was a toss up between lighting the candle or hoovering...

Not sadly dead though. So it doesn't count.

@justasking111 and @SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito 😂
WouldBeGood · 11/09/2020 16:36

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane good to know. And very wise not to hoover. I have to scrape the hair out of the carpet with my trainer clad foot first of all. When I start this, my tiny dog flees as she’s afraid if the Hoover.

Worldgonecrazy · 11/09/2020 16:42

I’m starting to wish they would rush through the vaccine so we can get our lives back. The risks will of course, remain the same, but I think the dementors will just ignore that and feel safe again.

WouldBeGood · 11/09/2020 16:51

They can inject us all with water as far as I’m concerned if it will placate the throng.

I half want some Machiavellian type to whisper in Boris' ear about the miraculous possibility of a placebo vaccine. Gov could roll it out it time for Xmas, give us all a shot of holy water for two pence each and send us on our merry way. Quietly drop daily death / cases / tests data and let us get the fuck on with our lives.
justasking111 · 11/09/2020 17:08

Well I am syringing the dogs ears with saline every other day, quite happy to offer the cure to the masses if necessary.

I accept my lot, wore masks in England this week, my cold is so vile in Wales, I actually wore one at the chemist, flower shop, butchers, hairdressers yesterday so as not to give them my cold lurgies.

If anyone on here insinuates I might be a deep planted dementor well they can just give their heads a wobble.

We'll give you a bye on that one. Believing the mask will help isn't being a dementor. Insisting others do is GrinGrin

Besides, even if it didn't do any good it will have made them feel better GrinGrin

I wobbled my head whilst I considered it though.

@Supermarketworker06

I think you are fine, it was guidance, not law and was about protecting the vulnerable. Clearly doesn't apply to you - you've been thrown in the firing line from the start.[/quote]
Thank you, Reality
Yep, at the start there was no gloves, sanitizer, screens, social distancing, just mad panic buying and people getting shitty because they couldn't have 12 cans of beans or lots of bread. Yep, had several of them.
We've noticed things are getting worse again, people are mostly ok but we've had some arseholes. Yep, had more and more of them lately. Bloody sick of it, bloody sick of telling people, no I'm not packing stuff in your scabby bag, no I'm not scanning your loyalty card, how many times do I have to tell you we're trying to cut down on ALL unnecessary touching of stuff. We've been doing this for months you fucking arseholes, how many times do I have to tell you "bar code side up" to scan it and no, it doesn't work if you've got your thumb over the bar code you idiot. I'm having to restrain myself from saying all of the above on a daily basis but bugger it's come close.
And yes, the markings on the floor are there for a purpose, so when I ask you politely to step back so the person in front of you can actually finish packing their shopping, especially if they're elderly and a bit slow and unsure, don't roll your fucking eyes at me and tut, you wanker.
My use of the word fuck has proportionately increased as the time has gone on. I still hate everything.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/09/2020 17:16

ADs require four candles, no, 'andles for forks Grin

We survived our first whole sniffly week of school!

DS2's teacher sent some pictures of the children busilyworking away and vibrant wall displays Smile
I've got no beef with sitting in forward facing rows and it's probably good for my two to sit comfortably and concentrate anywsy.

SomewhereEast · 11/09/2020 17:17

Anyone else feel like the Rule of Six thing is a bit of tipping point? Even friends who have been 101% compliant to date are saying they won't comply fully, in a "Well we're a family of five and yes we are going to have granny AND grandad over if we want to". Funnily enough we've been very compliant, for all my ADing...the one thing I won't do on principle is try to SD small children from their friends....but if I want to see another family and that makes seven or eight I'm not going to send someone home or make DH go out or whatever bollocks we're meant to.

Hilariously one of the new rebels this has created is DH's uber law-abiding conservative evangelical sister, who is in a family of six Grin....she plans to arrange to just 'bump into' family & friends in the park, which is VERY daring for her.

SomewhereEast · 11/09/2020 17:19

@Supermarketworker06 Really sorry people are being arses Sad. Even if you're eye-rolly about the rules its totally not fair to take it out on the staff.

DominaShantotto · 11/09/2020 17:20

We've had an email from school laying out all the potential scenarios and implications for who would be sent home from school and how the learning would be provided - from one kid with a sniffle up to confirmed multiple cases. I may dislike the woman immensely on a personal level - but at least she's on the case actually working to SOLVE stuff.

TheOrchidKiller · 11/09/2020 17:55

Just passed the local covid-spreaders youths gathering up the road where they hang out behind a hedge. Had the car windows shut so couldn't smell if they were smoking those funny cigarettes or not.
But they were all wearing disposible masks. ("Aww, bless").

Many more miserable laminated warning posters have appeared at work- have never wiped so much stuff down. There's a real undercurrent of threat, partly from people actually getting covid, & partly from the implications of lots of staff having to self-isolate. It's like being in some video game where you dodge getting caught out.

So glad we have a cat to come home to. He has been all cuddly, because he wants food loves me unconditionally.

It is more tolerable when you know the objectives.

My lines have been going out for more than one exercise into very quiet areas/ times where no social distancing was required because they were empty.
Going into a house to avoid hypothermia in the cold pissing rain when I hit meltdown point nearly 3 months in.
Taking the kids to playgrounds 3 months in because they were in serious danger of becoming depressed.
All of those were low risk.
I'm generally avoiding indoors stuff. I've not generally seen groups of people (occasionally, outdoors, well spaced). DH is working from home, and I'm generally around the house or out for a trail run.
I've given masks a fair try but have reached my threshold on panic attacks. I have a visor for shopping. I can just about tolerate them for things like the osteopath which is a quiet, passive environment and higher risk with close contact.
I remain sensible about social distancing, easy when I have personal space ishoos anyway Grin

My concience is clean.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 11/09/2020 18:08

Well, today has also been a shitter.

A number of years ago (in my teens and early 20s), I got into a lot of financial trouble with loans and credit cards etc.

It was hard work but I paid back all that I could. I do suspect that there are a couple that may have slipped through as by the time I'd got myself together enough to deal with them they had been passed on to agencies and I couldn't get hold of the right ones. So like an idiot I let it go thinking they would get in touch.
I had a call from one of them the day after I came home from the hospital with ds (he is now 9) explained I was at home with a newborn and they said they would send me everything in the post. They didn't.

Today, I have received a letter at my new address (been here almost 4 years) from a collection agency saying they are trying to get in touch with me over a personal business matter and if I am at this address to get in touch.

I'm terrified, yes I didn't handle the situation well at the time but I worked bloody hard ro sort it. But surely they cannot send you a letter not telling you what the debt is for or what its about, or anything after over 9 years? But they are now not open until Monday so I've to worry about this all bloody weekend now.

Bollss · 11/09/2020 18:19

Well I've been covering reception at work because both receptionists are off to be tested and half the staff on the ward upstairs have been sent home for the same reason. So I'm probably going to sadly die, really soon.

Bollss · 11/09/2020 18:21

@LivinLaVidaLoki I'm sure they can't chase debts after a certain amount of time. I'm sure it's less than 9 years. Check citizens advice website. I bet you won't have to pay it so don't agree to anything without checking first. I found CAB really helpful when I bought a car which immediately broke down!
