Just seeing how common it is

Not kids but me and my mum went to the same high school.

Dd3 goes to the same primary school as dh
Dd1/2 go to the same secondary school as me, and where dd3 will hopefully go next year.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/09/2020 22:06

I went to DM's school and quite a lot of the same teachers were there in their final years before retirement and taught us both. We had actually spent several years living over 100 miles away, but circumstances lead us back to the previous area.

I've taught in quite a few small town schools that tend to get repeat custom down the family tree.

Gingaaarghpussy · 02/09/2020 22:13

nope, because I lived on the "wrong" side of the village.

My dd goes to my old secondary. She is taught by some of my old teachers too 😳
Ds is going to Dh's old school although it has a different name now.
We were both born in the town we live in, have never lived anywhere else so it was inevitable really

toomanyplants · 02/09/2020 22:22

Yes, my mother, me and then my son.
All born in the same hospital too.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/09/2020 22:32

Yes, both primary and secondary
One teacher I had was their head teacher!

moolady1977 · 02/09/2020 22:35

My 3 dcs went to the same infant and junior school that I did and one of the teachers was still there who taught me and also remembered mine and my sisters names

BillyAndTheSillies · 02/09/2020 22:37

DS1 is going to the primary school that DH and his brothers went to. His teacher has taught at least two BIL's.

DS will be the third generation of DH's family at the school. Lots of schools around here but only one Catholic.

TheOnlyMrsW · 02/09/2020 22:42

Yes here too, DD goes to the same senior school that I went to, my brother and sister when too.

There's still a couple of teachers there who taught us all, including the amazing Maths teacher who got me through my GCSE as I was a complete dunce in the subject!!!

SeasideMaiden · 02/09/2020 23:00

Youngest goes to my old primary school.
Was a mistake enrolling her there, it's as shit and nasty as when I went there.
I was persuaded because it's meant to be super.
Bollocks is it.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/09/2020 23:19

Part of me would like to think if DS has children that it would be nice if they went to the same village school he did, but part of me would think I had failed to give him wings so to speak and move on and create his own life somewhere. I suppose it also depends if you live somewhere nice or not.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 03/09/2020 06:05

No, none of the generations of my family have been to the same school.

I find it quite odd to be honest...do people not want to move out of the bubble they grew up in?

Empra123 · 03/09/2020 06:39

Same primary.

HairyToity · 03/09/2020 06:47

My kids go to the same primary school as I did. At our largish rural village primary school I reckon about one in every 15 kids had a parent at the school.

HairyToity · 03/09/2020 06:48

P. S. I went to same secondary as my dad. If DH gets his way our kids will be going to same secondary that he went to.

Howcanwehelp · 03/09/2020 06:49

DS us starting the same secondary as his gp and aunt and uncle went too on his dad's side (dh went to the grammar school). We live near in laws to help them and managed to get him into as its a good school. He's got a common surname so unlikely he will associated with the others.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 03/09/2020 06:50

DD goes to the same primary that I did. We specifically moved to our part of the town to get her in to the school as it’s so good.

scrivette · 03/09/2020 06:53

DC will go to the same secondary as DH.

BalloonSlayer · 03/09/2020 07:06

We loved in a different town to the one my Mum grew up in but I still went to the same secondary school as she did. I have moved right away now, but BF's DD went there too (so did her Mum, so that's 3 generations for them). It's a super selective grammar now, hence the popularity.

Where I live now I worked in one of the 2 local comps, you either went to one or the other unless you had money for private. Loads of kids' parents had also attended.

JaJaDingDong · 03/09/2020 07:13

I went to the same school as my mother and my grandfather.
My children go to a different school though.

RickOShay · 03/09/2020 07:29

Yes. Same primary. I moved away from my home town for quite a while, but ended up coming back. Not something my teenage self would have believed Grin
It’s a beautiful part of the world.

Gancanny · 03/09/2020 09:21

DC go to the same schools their dad, grandparents, and great grandparents went to. They are friends with the children of the people DH went to school with, they'll probably end up marrying some of them and then it'll continue on.

buildingbridge · 03/09/2020 11:49

No. But I do know of some parents whose kids go to the same school as they did when they were young.

To be honest. I think it's a bit sad. I would suspect that the family have continued to be living in the same area for all these years. Life is about moving on. Why stay stuck living in the same place you were living since you were children. On some occasions, I tend to do shopping on a market from where I use to live as a child.
Every time I go there, I always bump into the same kids (now adults!) who continue to live in the same area. I just think why???!!

DowntonCrabby · 03/09/2020 11:54

We don’t but live in a village where lots of people have never moved away so many generations have gone to the same school.

There’s one teacher still there we’ll after retirement age who taught several age 40+ Mums many moons ago.

We only live around 5 miles from where I went to school and my old modern studies teacher lives in the village. MIL is a retired teacher and taught our next door neighbour 30 years ago.
