Birthday headache! What dressing table to buy for 7 year old? Please help!!

My DD aged 7 desperately wants a dressing table for her birthday this year.

I have looked at loads of children’s ones but lots of them say from age 3+ or look really small. I’m loathed to buy her something that she’ll grow out of within a year or so. I’ve also looked at children’s desks that I could put a mirror on but the same seems to be the case. Also, it can’t be too wide as we only have a small space for it.

A lot of the ones I’ve seen online seem massively overpriced for what they are.

There is an adult one on Ikeas website that is ÂŁ65. Would that be a silly idea for in a 7 year olds bedroom?

Please help!!

Does it have to be a dressing table? Dd had this Micke desk from ikea - the back was magnetised and could be customised with decals (or you could stick a mirror on the back). At one time it came in bright pink I think, although we just had the white one

Why not an adult one? It'll last longer and I'd imagine a child sized one would be too small very quickly. She'd probably like something more grown up?

Have you looked at wayfair?

This is the kind of thing I'd imagine a little girl would like:

Though personally I find this one more stylish:

I’ll have a look at wayfair, thank you. I think I will just go for an adult one as something that’s suitable for a 3 year old, won’t be suitable for a 7 year old for very long. I just hope it’s not way too big!

What do you think of this one? Too grown up?

I like the fact it could also be used as a desk.

My dd has the micke one from ikea like a pp posted, except her one is just the desk part, doesn't have the top bit or drawers. She was 6 when she got it and is 8 now, should last the teenage years. Its mostly used as a dumping ground though!

SmallestInTheClass · 02/09/2020 11:56

Micke desk here too - you can hang a mirror behind it rather than have the shelving unit.

I think the Brimnes desk you chose or any of the Micke desks would work well for a young girl as well as last into teenage years.

IKEA also have several cute table/vanity mirrors to choose from.

My DD16 has the smaller Karmsund mirror which is not that big but does the job. For the wow-factor I would go for the larger tri-fold Karmsund or one of the wall-mounted mirrors.
You could even splash out on the Ledsjö wall lamps for a dressing room look, but this may be a bit OTT and pricey for a young girl.

IKEA also have tonnes of cute fabric or paper boxes and baskets that would look cute and work well as storage on the desk/dresser.
HTH
Have fun !
