I’ve had to get up at 6.30 today and I feel hard done by Grin

That’s going to be our routine pretty much from now on as DC has started secondary and the bus is so early.

Used to be 7...

Primary aged kids - wake them up at 8 if they’re not already up.

Aim to be out the door for 855 at the very latest for the school dash - they’re to be in at 9 and with social distancing rules at the gate and staggered starts for other year groups we’re taking it very seriously to not be too early Grin

How do you people get everything/everyone ready in an hour or under?!

Ds1 is up at 6 to be out the door by 8:05. I'm up at 6:30 with ds2 to be out the door by 8:15. To be fair, ds1 and I are both autistic and need to do mornings in a calm, methodical, and leisurely manner to avoid meltdowns.

Wake children and send to have breakfast while I dress. (10-15 minutes) They dress while I start on lunches (10 minutes) They pack their bags (5mins) I do their hair. If ready early, with shoes on and coats and bag by door, we can have a sit down.

My experience is things take longer if you have extra time.

I get up at 8 to leave at 8.30 but we have been running late so will aim to get up earlier from now on.

Kids are up earlier than me.

FourEyesGood · 02/09/2020 12:39

I get up at 6 (teacher) and have been trying to get myself back into the routine - last week I set my alarm for 6.30 so that this week wouldn’t be so much of a shock. It’s horrible.

Aebj · 02/09/2020 12:40

Ds 2 is in year 9. He gets a lift with dh. He’s gets up at 6:30. They leave at 7:15 and get there at 7:30. They open the library at 7:30 so he just sits there with his friends ( they give them toast and milo ).
Ds1 ( year 11).gets up at 7:20. We leave around 8:10. He starts at 8:40. We get to school just before 8:30.
I get up at 5:20 as I go to the gym in the morning. I get home around 7!

Yamashita40 · 02/09/2020 12:41

If I'm wfh then 6.30 as I can log on a 7 and do a bit before the kids get up. If it's my days off then 8am as we live literally next to the school. My eldest sorts himself and I just make him a cooked breakfast before he goes for the bus.

Crystal87 · 02/09/2020 12:42

6.30, quick bath and dressed, then I wake the kids about 6.50

formerbabe · 02/09/2020 12:42

Between 7 and 7.30. Get up, make breakfast and sodding lunchboxes. Leave house at 8.25.

Before we moved house and schools, we lived practically next door to school and it started at 9am. We left the house at 8.57 so we got up at 8am. Bliss

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/09/2020 12:45

10 past 7, but I start work at 7.30am. That's when I wake the kids up, but we are only 2 min drive from the school and leave at 20 to 9 as ds1 starts at 8.45.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/09/2020 12:45

Up at 6.45am ready to leave the house at 8.15pm.

I always give myself 90 minutes to get ready - I have a leisurely 30 min breakfast before anyone else gets up then the chaos begins!

Doesn't take long for DD to get ready - get dressed, brush teeth, slice or toast or bowl of cereal, that's 15 minutes max. I've found with her that the more time she has in the morning, the less likely she is to leave on time as she gets distracted by something. I just have to make sure she gets out of the door on time though as she bikes to school, if I had to walk her it'd take more time because I need a lot more time in the morning.
MmeCamenbert · 02/09/2020 12:48

I'm up at 5.30am to shower before I get Dd1 up at 6am to get her school bus at 7.10am, I get the 2 smalls up at 7am (7yrs and 9yrs) to get them ready for their bus at 8.15am, I start work at 8am (childminder) I've been in bed for 8.30pm this week!

formerbabe · 02/09/2020 12:49

@MattBerrysHair

What are you having to do in the mornings? My DC have baths or showers the night before, so literally get up, eat breakfast which takes 10-15 minutes then brush teeth and put uniform on. I try to sort out bags the night before. Then there's nothing else to do really.

hopefulhalf · 02/09/2020 13:03

Alarm at 5:35 coffee in bed. Pilates then shower at 6 wake DCs at 6:15, dress all leave at 7am

isthismylifenow · 02/09/2020 13:16

@FilledSoda

I set the alarm for 6 , 5am seems awfully early indeed. I never feel as though I've had sufficient sleep even though 10pm is my absolute cut off for lights out. Are the 5 & 6 am risers going to bed much earlier than 10pm ?
Yes, i like to be in bed by around 10pm, and 10.30pm would be my latest on a weeknight. I really need my sleep.

My DC are ready in about 45 mins. Breakfast, dressed, teeth brushed, hair brushed then out. We’ve been known to do it in half an hour if necessary. I’m up hours before them though because the toddler won’t sleep past 5.30am!
CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 02/09/2020 13:20

7.30, although may be earlier now as staggered drop offs means an 8.30 start for one child

isthismylifenow · 02/09/2020 13:21

What? School starts at 7.20??? Ouch

Yes, we don't live in the UK and this is normal school starting times here. Many people start work at 7.30am as well so we are used to it.

They do finish school at 2pm, or on Fridays at 1.30pm so I think the early start is better. We are in a hot country so it is better to make more use of the mornings when it is cooler.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/09/2020 13:26

Pre-lockdown I got up at 6am, the kids got up at 7. I got up first to have a shower, get myself ready and drink a cup of coffee in peace.

Hoping now that DH is working from home (he was the really early riser - out of the door by 5.45 to catch his train) that I can get up a bit later and have my shower while he sorts the DCs breakfast.

Angel2702 · 02/09/2020 13:27

My year 7 starter had to be in at 7.45am today so we were up at 6. Can’t imagine it will be much later going forward Due to all the road closures our journey will be double the length now and I have to do an 8.15, 8.30 and then 8.40 drop off.

massistar · 02/09/2020 13:30

We prep everything the night before too so it's up at 7am to be out of the door by 7:40. DS going into Y11 so this has been his routine for a while. DD was 7:30 wakeup for 8:30 departure before but she'll need to get up at 7 now as well. I work from home so once they've left I'll go for a run then come back and get showered etc. before starting work at 9. I'm looking forward to the extra hour free but not looking forward to getting DD up at 7. She is most definitely not a morning person!

NothingIsWrong · 02/09/2020 13:39

6.30 here. One on the school bus at 7.35, the other two in breakfast club from 7.40. Both bus stop and primary school are 2min from home so big girl leaves about 7.30 and the others about 5-10min later.

LipstickTaserrr · 02/09/2020 13:48

My 19 month old has spent the last 5 months getting up at 5am despite multiple night wake ups too. I guarantee if I don't put an alarm on he will start to have a lie in and we will be late for school.

I find the earlier we get up the more time there is for faffing and distractions so we end up running to school.

7.15 to leave at 8.30 is what I'd like but it's not likely!
