Is there anyway, without compromising on sound, converting car sterio to digital somehow?

You might struggle to put new tech into an old tech car. Sounds expensive.

I play Spotify or Amazon music through the car's sound system, can you do that?

Aquamarine1029 · 01/09/2020 22:21

It will cost you and not worth it imo. I would stream music from my phone to a wireless Bluetooth speaker before I would sink money into an older car, aside from necessary repairs, of course.

I did this, got a jvc system from Halfords and they fitted it for me. Think it was £460 with fitting. So it had android auto and I plug my phone in and it does google maps navigation which is amazing, knows where the traffic jams are, Spotify for music. Does voice commands so I can tell it where I want to navigate to or which playlist to play.

Depending if you have android or,apple look on Halfords website and look at the different options for the system you need.

I did this. 12 year old car. Halfords. Cost about £450 but I went for the best option stereo because I had some birthday money and I’m in the car a lot- could do it for as little as around £150 with fitting. Works great, attaches to my iPhone with Apple car play so it mirrors my phone screen for Apple Music, BBC Sounds, Podcast app etc. Very pleased with it, highly recommend.

Oh, meant to add- Apple car play (or Android if that’s your thing) means it shows Apple maps on the screen so does satnav. Which is immense.

@JacobReesMogadishuc you mentioned the maps too! Jinx!

The only issue I’ve had is that occasionally it doesn’t work. Just doesn’t register that my phone is plugged in and sometimes turning the engine off or disconnect the phone sorts it.....but sometimes it doesn’t and it can be days before it works again.

I had this on my old Ford where I’d had the system put in and still get the problem on my new car where it was factory fitted from new.

Dh bought me a little DAB thing for my old car, plugged in to the stereo and then picked up DAB via the Aux input. Meant I could have planet rock on in the car.

Not bothered putting it on my new car, I just use an Aux to lightning cable and listen via my phone. I can use Spotify etc. Ordered a little Bluetooth button from China which lets me press for next track etc as the steering wheel controls only work volume on Aux input.

Oooo no. I’d pay a lot of money to have a CD player in my car. I miss my CD player. It’s just not the same plugging my phone in.
