Do you buy new school clothes each September?

I thought we had a bit more time before they went back to school. Alas, it has crept up again. I noticed lots of school uniform shopping posts on here and social media. I planned to do it today. However, I have simply dusted off the old school uniform and washed it. All looks good. Only new purchase is shoes as we buy cheap and frankly it's a false economy.

I understand this year may be different as a lot of growth may have happened in between March and now but typically, it's six weeks.

Do you buy new stuff every year? If so, do you also buy throughout the year?

DD1's secondary school uniform still fits her so the only new things she's had are shoes and a coat.

DD2 has had a big growth spurt. Her new school shoes are 2.5 sizes bigger than her old pair. She's grown a few inches in height, so has needed completely new uniform. If lockdown hadn't happened, she would have needed these by April/May and she would then have carried on wearing them in September.

@MonkeyToesOfDoom

I do buy new each September but I don't spend much. I see so many people spending £100s and I don't know why. £5 for some polo shirts and £8 for trousers. Daughter has black shoes anyway so doesn't need special school shoes buying.
I presume you have primary age children? DS1 (Year 11) has logo'd polos. They are £13 each. Ideally he would have 5 but I can't afford it so will have to wash midweek. His jumper was £20ish. DS1s blazer was £36 and the jumper £22.

I miss primary school where generic white shirts and £4 M&S jumpers were allowed.

Yes i buy everything new.Clothes do be ripped or they have grown to big for them.

Cockadoodledooo · 02/09/2020 15:32

Nope, only when needed. Bought ds2 a new jumper in March, as you can imagine it hasn't had much wear 😂
I'd much rather visit a shoe shop in November for example than cram in with everyone else during the last week in August!

I used to when dd was little but now she’s older a school skirt is £45, jumper £38 & blazer is £98 - she can wear the same uniform until she gets married! ( This is for a bog standard state comp)

Only bought full new uniforms before comprehensive when kids on the floor/mud and growing rapidly. Now I just buy as and when it’s needed. New shoes, trousers, PE trainers and blazer this September

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander

You should write to the head, contact your local MP and ask them to support Amesburys education bill and push it through the government process.
Or refuse to play ball, get into the disciplinary stages and kick up a fuss with local papers, other parents, Facebook groups so on and so on and so on.

I will look into writing to the mp and the Amesbury thing.
Not risking going down the disciplinary route as we've only just (at the start of lockdown) ended the discipline route for school refusal. DS1 is at a new school and wants to fit in.

As required. DD in Y11, she's lucky I bought her a new pair of shoes even 😂. It did occur to me last night that my growing-like-a-weed DS might find his trousers are too short. We're quarantining so I've got a few days before Monday for him to try on and me to dash to shops/online...
