Going to attempt this cake for wee ones 3rd birthday. What should I make the octopus out of? Shaped cake and fondant icing. Or rice krispies with fondant or gum paste? Any ideas. Thank you.

I have no idea sorry but that cake looks amazing! Please come back and post a pic once you've made it

I will do 😊 I usually make the kids cake but cant decide what would be best

I'd personally go shaped cake.

Or a complete cheat and find a correctly sized ball to cover with fondant icing.....

I'd use a cup cake, shaped or an orange!!!

TeddyIsaHe · 01/09/2020 18:12

Rice Krispies as it’s so much easier to mould with buttered hands. Plus it adds an extra yum dimension to the cake.

NoRoomInBed · 01/09/2020 18:57

I like the idea of the octopus being edible. Like maybe make a large cake pop type thing? Then I can shape it how it needs to be?

Cake 2 buns baked in muffin cases. Extra tsp baking powder to get a dome top. Scoop out centre & fill with choc buttons.

NoRoomInBed · 01/09/2020 19:38

Ohh I like that idea but maybe with m and ms. Wee ones love it and why not more food colouring. Going to be high as kites anyways 😂

I'd try that out of rice crispies, just to see how it worked!

WhatamessIgotinto · 01/09/2020 22:51

Def rice Krispies, you'll be able to mould it so much easier. Crumb coating a cake in that shape would be a ball ache.

Started the cake today

I’d just do a plain cake and lob a toy octopus on top...

NoRoomInBed · 12/09/2020 15:51

Not exactly the same and a bad pic but I'm happy with it

That crab too!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 12/09/2020 16:57

Well done, that's awesome!!

Did you so rice crispies in the end? Well done!

NoRoomInBed · 12/09/2020 18:04

I did use rice krispies. Thank you everyone. I'm now making fish shaped cake pops with the left over cakey bits 😂

I see you have lots of googly eyes left... I once got bored and put eyes on most of the food in the fridge.

Well it amused me... I still do it sometimes when I pack a sandwich for DS to take to school. He’s 16...

NoRoomInBed · 12/09/2020 19:22

Yep I've done that before too 😂 going to use the eyes on the fish cake pops. I'm doubting how they will come out.
