Talk about can't see the wood for the trees after a very stressful time!!! Two fully grown, very capable women but we are unable to do this sum without confusing ourselves and it HAS to be right....

DM passed away last year and left 26000 in a bank account. My sister and I lent it to our brother who needed it urgently so he has had it all.

House sold today and we took receipt of £176887. We CANNOT work our what our shares should be and what we need to transfer to him, bearing in mind our brother has already had £26k from the bank account. Please help!!!!!

41629 for your brother.
67629 each for you and your sister

I think

EmmaStone · 01/09/2020 17:12

So:
£176887 + 26000 = full estate of £202887.

Divide by 3 = £67629.

Brother gets £67629-26000 = £41629

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/09/2020 17:12

Add it all up together

26,000
176,887
-----
1002,910

And divided by 3.

So each of you should get 334, 303

Deduct 26,000 from your DBs 1/3, he has already had it.

So you and DS egt 334,303
DB gets 308.303 (and the 26,000 he has already had)

YummyInMyTummy · 01/09/2020 17:12

Assuming a third each...

176887 + 26000 = 202887 total pot.
202887 / 3 = 67629 share each.

67629 share - 26000 already given = 41629 still owed to brother.

Onesmallstepforaman · 01/09/2020 17:13

I think you add up the estate and divide by three. House sale plus bank balance. Then subtract the amount your brother has already had from his third.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/09/2020 17:15

Sory, I utterly mis typed it. I think I left the remnants of my last mileage calculation in there Blush

Done properly it is as They said!

I am so sprry!

@CuriousaboutSamphire

You've generated a bit of a bonus there for everyone!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/09/2020 17:17

Yep! Mileage for a very busy day Grin

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 01/09/2020 17:17

Cross post...!

Smallsteps88 · 01/09/2020 17:19

You get £67629

Your sister gets £67629

Your brother gets £41629

LindziLouLaBelle · 01/09/2020 17:19

I think this is how I’d work it out ...

176887 + 26000 = 202887 would have been total funds

divide by 3 = 67629 each

67629 - 26000 = 41629 brothers share out of house

176887 - 41629 = 135258 left

And for confirmation 135258 / 2 = 67629

olderthanilookapparently · 01/09/2020 17:20

@yummyinmytummy is absolutely correct

Excitedannie · 01/09/2020 17:25
