I write a list of all the meals we enjoy under 'Chicken', 'Veggie', 'Fish' etc, then every week before shopping, just pop down a meal per night and write the list from that.

That's clever @leafeater as I find I sometimes can only think of things made with chicken and then get stuck to think of other things. I'm keen to do meatless Monday or something this term.

I meal planned for lunches and dinners during lockdown and it took so much stress out of cooking.

This month I'm going to try and cook from stuff we have a lot of. I have quite a lot of chickpeas and tinned tomatoes lurking in cupboards.

We don't meal plan, we pretty much buy the same stuff (eg vegetables, carbohydrates, pasta sauce ingredients) every week and then mix up the proteins - eg, if one week we had chicken and salmon, the next week we buy sausages and mince.
If we don't end up eating something we can freeze it for next week.

I find it easier not planning - if the DC are chilled we can make a nice meat/potatoes/veg dish and if they are hangry/tantrummy/napping we can just make something simple like jacket potatoes or cheese gnocchi etc.
