Packing for a house move

How do you do it? When do you start? This is our first proper house move and I'm clueless. We'll be moving out and in on the same day-if that makes any difference.

I'm not an organised person in the slightest, literally leave thing to the last minute and hope for the best!
I want this house move to be as stress free as possible! The other issue is we don't have a date for moving only that it might be around 3weeks. I keep thinking that's loads of time, however DH and I both work shifts (not the same pattern so very few days off together) and we can't take holidays because god forbid we have a life outside of work!
I'm literally going to be coming off a nightshift, moving house and going back in for another nightshift if it all goes to plan for the provisional date so I need to be on the ball!

I started with the loft, chucked the rubbish and packed the rest. My junk filled garage and shed took some time to do too.

I used the banana boxes from Tesco/Morrison’s as they’re strong and can stack easily. The staff were very helpful when there was none out. I used the stiff brown paper that came with them to cover the bottom & top holes in the boxes and nothing fell out.

Start packing now. I had to call on two friends the day a couple of days before my movers arrived to help with the last lots. I also paid another friend mates rates to clean the house too, I didn’t realise how filthy the house was underneath all my stuff. She did an excellent job.

Remember to take the light shades. A new build won’t have those or curtain rails or bathroom furniture.

Pack your suitcases as if you are going on holiday for a fortnight self catering. Box up everything else in the house Grin

Yesterday was a good day, lots of decluttering, I was ruthless, DH not so much but he came round. Only matching sets of glasses kept/packed, only the full dinner set; the odd ones are left out for use and will be binned they day before we move.

All the decorative bits and pieces; pictures, ornaments faux plants etc are packed away. Along with the extra cleaning products. Today I'm starting upstairs and all the extra cosmetics etc will be packed.

It doesn't feel as daunting. A lot of smaller things can just be chucked in the cars and we will try and get the van the night before and put the biggest bulkiest thing in.
I think I'm Winning this battle 😂
