Best supermarket birthday cake?

In all my years Ive never worked a birthday 🎂. Im a nurse so usually request it off. Anyway, I forgot so I need to buy a cake to take in. I thems the rules. So, I have M and S, Asda, Morrissons or Sainsburys nearby. Are any of them better than the other? Anything else I should take in?

Thanks in advance.

Either Colin or one from asda. Asda do great birthday cakes (and have a good choice of dairy and gluten free ones too!)

Sainsburys salted caramel cake, yum 😋

Tesco’s Happy Birthday cubes, lovely and chocolatey, also no need to cut it up, we always get this for the football team. Easy at the side of a pitch....

No, not Colin, get the Sainsbury version which is far superior in every way, except possibly its name (Wiggles).

I like the M&S celebration cake which is plain sponge with jean and buttercream filling, with a white fondant icing and colourful iced stars on. Oooo OR the Sainsbury’s traybake covered in buttercream and tutti fruttis is really good.

TellYourCatISaidHi · 31/08/2020 16:05

^jam and buttercream, not jean Confused

Forget Colin. Get the White Chocolate & Strawberry cake at M&S instead.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2020 16:07

Of course it's Colin. The birthday person gets the face. (Apparently they now do packets of mini faces.) saw one in M& S reduces yo £1 the other day. I was so tempted!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 31/08/2020 16:08

I love Colin but find the M&S or Sainsbury's traybakes or the cartons of mini chocolate roll/brownies easier to transport to work and to share there.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2020 16:09

@EachandEveryone if your colleagues are anything like mine Colin will be eaten so quick you won't even get a slice.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2020 16:10

We were given a Costco cake the other week for being awarded Pathway to excellence. There was a bit to much icing but omg the sponge was amazing!

Backtobasics5 · 31/08/2020 16:11

M&S hands down the nicest cakes I’ve ever had. The chocolate cake with stars is really good. Also the ballon jam and sponge cake is really nice too. Very fresh I’ve never had any issues.

managedmis · 31/08/2020 16:14

Have you heard about Colin, perchance?

Macarena1990 · 31/08/2020 16:15

I bought the M&S rainbow one last week and has replaced Colin as the family favourite!

DeathMetalMum · 31/08/2020 16:16

Thorntons sticky toffee Birthday cake. Available at asda, lovely and moist, one of the nicest supermarket cakes I've had. Or Tesco's Caterpillar cake.

Bettyn · 31/08/2020 16:20

I love Asda's rainbow cake.

Pikachubaby · 31/08/2020 16:21

DS had a slice of that in the cafe earlier this week, it was really good

FoodieToo · 31/08/2020 18:47

Colin ia amzing and Connie is an abomination !!

sqirrelfriends · 31/08/2020 18:59

Sainsbury's do a beautiful giant cupcake, it's to die for.

Whatever you do avoid Morrison's, vile.

FourEyesGood · 31/08/2020 19:02

Definitely M&S. I’m not bothered about Colin, but their normal birthday cakes are much nicer than similar ones from other supermarkets.

sparklefarts · 31/08/2020 19:10

M&S chocolate birthday cake.
Think it's in a purple box.
It's fabulous. God I want cakes

Iwantitidontwantit · 31/08/2020 19:21

I bought this cake for my DM's birthday this weekend and was actually very impressed. Not an Asda shopper normally but this was very pretty and tasted lovely. Plus a bargain at only £11
