Does anyone else find alcohol stops them sleeping?

I’m only early 30s but I’m finding more and more I either can’t sleep straight away or I wake up during the night. This is only drinking say 2 glasses of wine or a double spirit and at the moment it’s once a week so not a big night out. I love sleep! Think I might just stop altogether as I hate feeling awful the next day, not like hungover but just tired. Does anyone else get like this? Is it just getting old?

Yes I feel really low and almost tearful the next day too. No-one else I know feels like this so this thread is definitely reassuring!

@Guineapigbridge

Any kind of wine and I'm awake at 1am and not going back to sleep. Proper champagne (verve cliquot, Dom perignon, krug etc) is fine. Some southern hemisphere organic wines are also fine but not the organic ones from Europe.
Love it. “No I’m very sorry I can only drink the very finest champagnes. It’s for medical reasons”.

@DowntonCabbie ! The depression was so bad for me. Beer fear is a real thing.

Honestly, everything you describe, I have too.

Yes! I spend the night either wide awake or just dozing for half an hour at a time. No quality sleep at all. I no longer drink unless I literally have nothing to do the following day, otherwise I'm useless. I've always had this problem although it's definitely got worse in the last year or so (I'm 40)

formerbabe · 31/08/2020 09:38

Yes and it gives me horrible anxiety the next day. I am virtually tee total

MistressMounthaven · 31/08/2020 11:05

Yes, anxious and sleep poorly.

I always sleep terrible even after two glasses of wine, awful!! No idea why, I'm the same as you though I really struggle with the tiredness the day after

MegaClutterSlut · 31/08/2020 11:49

Same as what everyone else has said. I find that I don't go into a deep sleep and wake up constantly at every slight noise. I don't drink much anymore as its totally not worth the next day imo

Delatron · 31/08/2020 13:01

Yep. It’s so frustrating, especially if you’ve only had a glass of wine or two. How can such a small amount equal hours if no sleep?!

Very frustrating as I love wine.

I've noticed this keeping me awake pretty much all night now since drinking and sometimes I can have a heavy night out and still not sleep I'm 38 nearly 39 so no idea why it happens now never used to thinking of just stopping now tbh I miss my sleep
