It looks like a cross between a cricket and a spider!!! I'm guessing it's more scared of us than we are of it, but really...

WankyDoodleDandy · 31/08/2020 00:24

Definitely not a cicada.
Looks like a Very Big Cricket!

Gingaaarghpussy · 31/08/2020 00:24

Having meandered around Google it seems its a cricket.

IdinaSackville · 31/08/2020 00:25

Looks like a park town prawn which are found in certain areas of South Africa. Could be a type of locust. Depends where you are

RyanBergarasTeeth · 31/08/2020 00:25

Field cricket

RyanBergarasTeeth · 31/08/2020 00:26

Or a wood cricket. One of the 2.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/08/2020 00:26

I would say a cricket.

wheresmymojo · 31/08/2020 00:34

It's a cricket.

I'd say the previous 'crickets' you've seen were probably grasshoppers...

Hi, Worra! Definitely still in the UKGrin

Thanks, all, I thought it might be, it was just the colour - especially as the last cricket I saw looked like this...

Roesel’s bush cricket.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 31/08/2020 22:45

The one in your first picture looks like a common field cricket - probably female judging by the downturned ovipositor.

The green one in your second picture is almost certainly a Great Green Bush Cricket
