What is the nearest tasting thing you can think of? Have loads of recipes with it as a main ingredient but don't want to risk it if I will hate it

Like a less dry peanut butter rice cake? Just buy some and try it.

It's quite variable.

It's made of fungus type stuff around soy beans or lentils or whatever.
So it doesn't have a very strong taste.
The texture is a bit marmite. I don't like it as much as I like seitan.

Spongey soggy toast and plain flavourless white cheese curd.
It takes to seasoning so flavour of itself is v bland but will chameleon to flavours added to it or even bee sitting next to.

It's lovely - kind of a nutty taste and not soggy at all. I can't get enough of it.

Broiled feet.

The texture is odd. I’m not massively keen on it. It takes on the taste of whatever you cook it with.

I found it very disappointing. Vaguely Marmitey, mushroomy, nutty - all things I like, yet altogether a bit meh. I didn't care for the texture, either. Sort of lumpen and stodgy. I tried it a few different ways. The best was frying thin slices and adding it to a mushroom-based dish.

There was only one make in our supermarket. I'd like to try other makes - they might be nicer.

texture like a make up sponge.
doesn't taste much like anything but takes well to marinades.
I prefer saitan
