Boring car poll - help!

Leather seats in cars - yay or nay?

I’ve always disliked and avoided them - uncomfortable, sticky in summer, cold in winter - but I’m looking for a particular car in a particular spec (that there aren’t loads of) at the moment and one’s come up that is in every way what I’m looking for, except it has leather seats.

I’d keep waiting as a few more will come up, but DC1 is on the way and I need car before he’s here. One perk of leather may be easy to wipe clean of baby sick and general child mess...

Anyone have any strong feelings either way on car seat upholstery?

We test drove a car last year with leather seats that had a cooling technology. They basically blew cool air into you. They were really good to be fair.

I love leather seats personally as they seem to be easier to keep clean. I'm the wrong person to ask though as I keep the heated element on most of the time. I have a curved spine and find the heat works wonders for pain. Never felt sticky in them, even in summer.

Leather seats are so much more practical when transporting children and dogs. We have heated and cooling seats so no problem with the temperature.

DustyMaiden · 30/08/2020 23:29

Heated and cooling leather seats are perfect. easy to clean.

MJMG2015 · 30/08/2020 23:33

Nope. I don't like feeling like I'm sliding around. Plus the hot/cold thing (though different if it's got the heated/cooling seats I guess)

But mainly no, as I have an ethical objection to buying leather.

Many years if car owning, with many children in the cars & never an issue with fabric seats.

ThunderSkies · 30/08/2020 23:56

I’ve never wanted to sit on skin 🤷‍♀️

wegetthejobdone · 31/08/2020 00:59

Nope. Horrible. Sliding around on animal skin isn't fun.

BuffaloCauliflower · 31/08/2020 09:54

Thanks all, I agree on not liking the slide around. My MIL had leather seats that heat and they make me feel horribly itchy! I should add these definitely won’t be heated/cooling seats, it’s a 10 year old car, but the air con is good so wouldn’t mitigate a lot. Interestingly I don’t eat meat (for ethical and environmental reasons) but don’t mind sitting on leather...

Split though and yet still agreeing with my two points - they’re both practical and horrible 🤷🏼‍♀️

Just put covers on them. Perhaps beaded ones if you fancy that retro taxi driver look.

averythinline · 31/08/2020 10:30

Very practical....don't have cooling just ac but have heated 1st time ever and its great....but much easier to clean...don't get the itchiness...had that more with fabric I would definitely put high on list now having had..

Glittertwins · 31/08/2020 10:32

Was always totally against them until the car I wanted had them in the spec and it would have been more hassle / cost to change. Far easier to keep clean although the DCs are a lot older now
