I sometimes feed the local geese.

I pay council tax.

OhSweetNuthin · 30/08/2020 20:34

You feed the geese? 😂
Way to go OP, your philanthropy knows no bounds.

Humbersider · 30/08/2020 20:34

Yep, by paying an absolute fuck ton of council tax.

sqirrelfriends · 30/08/2020 20:35

I used to buy coffee from the local independent cafe even though the service was painfully slow. Unfortunately COVID has killed the business so I have to resort to Costa or Pret.

Monthly donations to our county foodbank and sometimes donations/gifts to specific families. My best friend is the wife of a local funeral director and occasionally runs into families that have lost a family member and need some help to get through the aftermath. Sometimes I send food, sometimes I donate toward the funeral cost, sometimes it's other things they need. But I do it through her so I'm not identifiable as the donor.

I deliver newspapers to the elderly in our road who are housebound. The local shop stopped using paperboys and girls... Mum and I go to the shop everyday.. It seemed sensible to offer. I originally had 4. One moved away, one died... I'm left with Ds2's adopted Grandma and another old lady... I am pleased to help.

megletthesecond · 30/08/2020 20:41

Litter pick and guerrilla garden.

Elderflower14 · 30/08/2020 20:41

Oh and I collect prescriptions for people as well and deliver them.

MrsApplepants · 30/08/2020 20:42

I don’t really participate in the community so my council tax covers it.

ilovesooty · 30/08/2020 20:46

I donate to local independent animal rescues. I used to be a trustee, then Chair of a local charity.

ekidmxcl · 30/08/2020 20:48

As well as paying a fuck tonne of council tax, I pick up dog shit that selfish fuckers don’t bother to. I also collect up the recycling that the bin men drop everywhere on bin day. I don’t do this because I am a good person, I do it so that I don’t have to live in a filthy shit hole. Frankly I’m up til midnight dealing with my own family and elderly parents so I have nothing left to give the community, apart from I’m not contributing to it being fucked up

Twigaletta · 30/08/2020 20:49

Chair committees to get things built in our local area. Done 2 now. Love to see the outcome of my work and see the community enjoying them.

steakhousesally · 30/08/2020 20:51

I've worked for a local non-profit community organisation for 20 years.

Northernsoullover · 30/08/2020 20:52

I live quietly and obey the law. This is far more than my immediate neighbours do.

InTheFamilyTree · 30/08/2020 20:52

Laughing at these people who think paying council tax means they're making a contribution to community Confused

I volunteer in a shelter for homeless people.

JamieLeeCurtains · 30/08/2020 20:58

Your council tax covers fuck all.

Maybe 10-15% of the total expenditure of your council's expenditure.

JamieLeeCurtains · 30/08/2020 20:58

Lots of expenditures there Grin

NothingIsWrong · 30/08/2020 21:05

School governor.

Advicewouldbeappreciated · 30/08/2020 21:05

I work.
I raise my kids-alone
I dont have time for 'community'
Voluntary work is all well and good to virtue signal about but rare in those who actually work 60 hours a week
I look after my own as noone else will

Finkelbraun · 30/08/2020 21:14

I'm intrigued by the phrase "give back."

Do most people feel that their community "gives" to them? And in what way?

isitfridayyet1 · 30/08/2020 21:15

Gosh some of the answers in here are so disheartening. No wonders there's a lack of community in so many areas of the country. I guess those ' I pay council tax ' people, do know that it is illegal not to pay it. It's not like you've gone out of your way to do so

PsychoSyd · 30/08/2020 21:17

I set fire to it every November 🤣
