Quick! What to have for pudding after Shepherds pie lunch?

DC's are coming for llunch. We're having Delia's recipe Shepherd's pie and veg but I can't decide what to serve for dessert. Any ideas? Must be easy to knock up really as I don't want to spend all morning in the kitchen (pie made yesterday).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Depends what u have in
If you want a winter you’d then baked apple with custard ?
Or a crumble not much work
Bread butter pudding
Or if you want a lighter pud then chocolate mousse ? Fruit and ice cream ?
What is in your fridge / freezer / larder ?

I'd pop out to M&S or Cook and get something ready made like a pavlova or cheesecake.

Some kind of crumble and custard is always a winner and super quick to make.

Something light - mousse or gooseberry fool. Certainly not crumble or pie as that'd be too carb heavy.

MsSweary · 30/08/2020 10:31

i've got baking ingredients but no fruit; no ice cream or anything sweet in the freezer but Sainsburys within 5 minutes walk.
is apple crumble too heavy do you think?

Meringue with fresh cream and seasonal fruit.

MsSweary · 30/08/2020 10:34

Ok, that's good, I'm off to see what they've got, thank you!

Quick Victoria sponge - pop to shop to make it with fresh cream? Or Nigellas rich choc loaf cake with fresh cream - but more complicated

Cooltalkin · 30/08/2020 10:35

Tbh I’d go to Sainsbury’s
One it’s quicker And two less hassle

If you have a break after shepherds pie I think apple crumble is ok especially if you want a winter dish

See what shop has
Maybe strawberries and yoghurt if you want lighter

nosswith · 30/08/2020 10:36

Do you need to have dessert at all?

yahoosername · 30/08/2020 10:41

Cheeseboard

Lozz22 · 30/08/2020 10:44

Brandy snap baskets with fruit and ice cream

Boireannachlaidir · 30/08/2020 10:48

Greek yoghurt, berries & honey.

YewHedge · 30/08/2020 10:51

Affogato

Crustacean7 · 30/08/2020 10:52

Something light like fruit salad or meringue.

GinWithRosie · 30/08/2020 11:14

I'd have something with a bit of a crunch...as shepherds pie is soft! You don't want two soft things on the menu do you? So crumble after shepherd pie would just be like an identical main and pudding...they even look the same! Two layers 🤦‍♀️

How about a simple fresh fruit salad...nice and crunchy ☺️ and a cheese/cracker board so there's a choice.

So its zingy lemon tart with fresh raspberries and squirty cream because when they're all together my adult DC's regress to their childhood ways, and there's probably a whole other thread on that subject Grin

I had to google Affogato but it looks really delicious !
