Masked up & alone in a&e.

Been sent in by out of hours gp with suspected acute pancreatitis. First time I've been near a hospital/health care setting since before lockdown and it is the weirdest experience of my life.
Might also be because this is a hospital I haven't been to before but there's a load of drunks/smack heads hanging round in reception, charging their phones and ordering pizza. In their defence they did ask the staff and the patients if anyone wanted anything😂

But then the rest of the place is like a ghost town, everyone distanced, wearing masks, hardly speaking. You wouldn't dream it was a Saturday night in a&e. As a pub worker, asthmatic and all round sickly person I've spent a lot of time sat in waiting rooms over the years but I've never seen one this quiet.

Anyway, I'm just rambling to pass the time. 3 hour wait to see the doctor 😩

Hope your wait isn’t as long as you say. How are you feeling? I’m up with DS who doesn’t seem to want to sleep.

Hi, just wanted to keep you company. I am guessing pain is pretty bad and a share in a smackheads pizza isn't tempting 😭🍕

Howallergic · 30/08/2020 01:42

Oh dear - I believe pancreatitis is extremely painful. Hope you get seen quickly and get some pain relief. BTW, the treatment for pancreatitis is apparently to give the pancreas a break, so no food or drink (sips of water) for next 24 hours if you can.

Oh the thought of that pizza Envy < definitely not envy!
@MummaGiles how old is your ds?

I've had pancreatitis in the past and remember literally rolling round the hospital bed begging for morphine while my dm & dp looked on like I'd lost the plot 😂 so I think dp is happy for the no visitors rule atm, he happily went home to relieve dbil & dsil of their baby sitting duties. Lucky bugger

@Howallergic I best go and cancel my fried chicken order with the smack heads outside then Grin
I suppose luckily, the fact that the pain makes the thought of food seem unbearable should get me through the next 24 hours. Regretting that McDonalds earlier though Blush

@downwithallthesenamechanges he’s 13 months. I think it’s a mix of a nap far too late in the afternoon (thanks DH 🙄) and not having had enough for tea so waking up hungry and now not being able to settle. We’ve also got the in laws staying just to add to it all. I’ve taken him downstairs and put the tv on for a bit. There was no point in continuing with him keeping the whole house awake by crying.

What are the smack heads up to? Has their pizza arrived yet? What’s their topping of choice?

SpliffingOramorphedOut · 31/08/2020 04:34

Not right nice to talk about others like that... Smackheads? Show a bit of respect eh?

SamBeckettsLastLeap · 31/08/2020 04:40

I could eat a pizza right now, I can't comprehend places that have 24hour delivery, or that deliver Maccy's for that matter. What did you have at Macs that you are now regretting?

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2020 04:42

Of I love it when parents ask us if we want anything from McDonald's. Once never had the nerve to actually say yes please though. Even though I could kill got a chocolate milkshake. I was having a nosey at who was in our A&E last night, there was 27 patients. I have never ever known it that empty ever. Especially on a Saturday night/Sunday morning.
