What do I need to know before buying a Nintendo Switch?

I want to buy us a Switch as a family Christmas present but am pretty clueless about gaming systems so could do with some pointers about things to buy/avoid. We have a very old Wii and the kids love Mario Cart, Wii Sports, and Wii Fit so will want to replicate those types of games, us maybe some others, they also like Minecraft and Sims on the PC. Any other games to look out for? Any must-have or must-avoid accessories? Anything I should know about how it all works?

Ringfit is good, it's a RPG but you have accessories (sort of like the Wii fit in principle) and you have to move in real life to move and fight in the game- quite a few levels of difficulty as well which is good. Also worth checking Nintendo online store for deals, and for indie games, some are like £1 but actually really good. I also bought a cheap WiFi controller as I didn't like where the buttons are on the joycon controller holder, but that's personal preference really. I got mine a few years back in the Amazon black Friday sale, but had to be quick off the mark, worth keeping an eye out if you don't have one by then though.
