Last time, I bought toast tongs. Which dd2 loves!

Anyone any other small (cheap) items I need to purchase?

I have these in my basket for such an eventuality - 51p

Or this for 26p

OchonAgusOchonO · 28/08/2020 21:20

This for 4p. You will have to bin it though as I assume you don't need it.

A little twirly plastic gizmo for removing ticks, if you go on country walks or camping.

Chinese sweets.

Stitch markers if you knit.

MenaiMna · 28/08/2020 21:30

Spaghetti measure

lucysmam · 28/08/2020 21:32

Hmmm, I really don't need stationery...I acquired several freebies at the Pride festivals I went to with my Guides and my own girls last year and am still working my way through those Blush

It may have to be a USB wire - that's something we always need, or sweets!

@AdaColeman any recommendations for Chinese sweets?

I have one of them. I love when the dogs get ticks now Grin

I go for a big pack of batteries. They are usually a bit more than I need to qualify for delivery but DD is constantly telling me something needs new batteries so they always get used.

OchonAgusOchonO · 28/08/2020 23:15

@lucysmam - so what are you getting?

lucysmam · 29/08/2020 22:03

@OchonAgusOchonO I went for candy kittens...two packets in sour watermelon flavour. I suspect I know two girls who will enjoy them Grin

ScorchioScorchio · 29/08/2020 23:00

I keep a list for this exact thing. On it currently are: HB pencils, pencil rubbers, sellotape & Nesti Dante soap.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/08/2020 05:20

I've got Bic biros on my wish list for this very reason. Now I'm WFH my work pen supply has dried up (I don't steal work pens for personal use of course but my work had a free access stationery cupboard for work purposes and I regularly attended conferences that were a good pen acquisition opportunity) and for the first time in about 25 years I run out of pens and had to buy some.

Amazon has packs of 4 Bic biros for 1.49 or 2.99 for 10 so a cheap source of pens and a good useful top up item, although I'll be coming back to this thread for other good suggestions.

I especially like the idea of the spaghetti measurer as we must have the only spaghetti spoon that doesn't double up as a measurer or if it does, it's the Mumsnet low carb version because you can fit about 6 strands of spaghetti in it.

nosswith · 30/08/2020 08:34

Do batteries count?

lucysmam · 30/08/2020 09:36

@ScorchioScorchio I didn't think of something like soap...I do like a nice bar of soap & there's usually only me uses it! I'll have to try and remember next time!

I bought a bar of cold tar soap recently to get free delivery. I use fancy, handmade soap I buy at the local market. Dh uses ordinary bar soap. He was not impressed with the cold tar soapGrin. A tad medicinal, he claimed.

DarkMintChocolate · 30/08/2020 11:06

Surgical masks, in case of another major corona virus outbreak this winter, and rising death rates!

AdaColeman · 30/08/2020 11:29

It’s actually coal tar soap, and was originally made from the waste liquid of the distillation of coal into coke. It was medicinal, and used to treat skin diseases.
When, a few years ago, coal tar products became ‘prescription only’, the coal tar in Wright’s soap was replaced with tea tree oil, but the appearance and smell of the original coal tar soap was retained.

OchonAgusOchonO · 30/08/2020 11:37

@AdaColeman - It’s actually coal tar soap

That's what I tried to typeBlush. Don't know if it was a typo that was auto-corrected to cold or possessed fingers. Just shows I should have re-read my post (she says while frantically re-reading this one).

Mrsjayy · 30/08/2020 11:50

I remember coal tar shampoo I had a dry scalp and the coal tar smell just alerted the whole class to the fact I had "special shampoo"!
