Things to do in leeds

In a socially distant/covid world?

Had hotel booked for a gig in may, was rescheduled to september so hotel let me move the booking despite it being a non refundable/changeable rate, seeing as they were closed on my original date. All good. Gig then reschedule to next year once they realised that september was a bit optimistic.

However i cant change my hotel again, as this time the hotel is open and trading, and i have non-refundable rate. So want to make the best of it and not waste £200, and go to leeds for the weekend anyway.

Dp isnt keen to go unless we have a specific plan of what to do, as he doesnt want to habe to drive to Leeds to sit around at the hotel to then drive home again.

Any ideas of things we can do in the area to make a nice weekend out of it? Will have the car with us so can travel a bit to surrounding areas as well.

Go to Ilkley for a long walk on the moors.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park - outdoors, so socially distanced. 15 mins drive from Leeds.

Lots of nice shopping in Leeds. We have Harvey Nicks do'nt you know :)

Nice restaurants, nice places to go for walks. We are on the edge of wonderful countryside, and there are always nice restaurants.. did I already say that :)

Enjoy

I live in Leeds and there are lots of great things to do out and about.

Are you coming this weekend or later on? How far are you coming?

If you like country parks and museums you are spoilt for choice, but you do have to book many.

The Royal Armouries doesn't open until 16 Sept according to website, but there's also the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Mining Museum near each other about half an hour away, Saltaire, Temple Newsam, Lotherton Hall, Roundhay Park, Kirkstall Abbey, Otley Chevin or Golden Acre Park to name but a few. Most of the latter are free and there are parks and town areas close by for lunch etc.

Leeds is also great for shopping and going out for food or drinks. You can eat anything from street food to fine dining plus endless chain restaurants.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Travelling through next weekend from Newcastle so not too far away, but want to make a nice staycation out of it rather than waste what ive paid for the hotel.

Are you driving or getting the train?

If you're driving then I agree with PPs that there are other places to go but then you're only there a weekend anyway

Lots of great restaurants and bars, shopping...

We would have the car, so can travel a bit, although want to avoid going too far out as we both drive a lot for work so a break would be nice.

Tbh if it's a weekend there's plenty to do in Leeds but it depends what you're interested in doing

ScottishStottie · 28/08/2020 16:49

@Butterer

Saltaire / Knaresborough/ Ilkley etc aren't long on the train from Leeds, and I think there's buses to the Sculpture Park from Wakefield (a really short train journey).

Tropical World in Roundhay Park is lovely and good for a rainy day too.

Enjoy your stay!

Was looking at tropical world, i like zoos and things like that, so good to hear its worth a visit!

Yes fingers crossed for some nice weather, would be nice to do parks etc.
