Should I have paid during lockdown?

My two DDs have had a tutor for about a year, an hour a week at home to help with English and Maths. She tutors other children in the area as well.

When lockdown was imposed, she messaged to say we should suspend lessons and I replied saying of course, stay safe and so on. Didn’t think much more of it.

In recent weeks, I’ve messaged her about starting up again and not had a response. When lockdown eased, I saw a few threads on here where people said they’d continued to pay their cleaners throughout, even though they weren’t cleaning obviously.

It’s made me wonder whether I should have kept on paying her regardless? Would that be what most people would’ve done?

I suppose we could’ve continued online but she never suggested it and I never thought of it.

What do people think - would it be expected that I continued to pay her and I’ve totally stuffed things up?

I’ve seen some people suggest that on this forum but personally I wouldn’t have paid.
My son did continue with his tutor but she did offer online sessions through Zoom which we were happy to avail of.

I think you should have suggested zoom lessons tbh, I mean what if your employer just stopped paying for those 3 months?

If she wanted to be paid she should have offered online lessons, silly of her to still be expecting payment for nothing when zoom lessons were possible.

Fair enough to still pay a cleaner or gardener who can't do the work online.

It may not be anything to do with you or whether you paid: she could be ill or bereaved or anything.
