Where do your teens talk to you?

I have three DC, the eldest would/will talk to me anywhere. She is an adult and we talk loads.

The 2nd born is different. She is very private, has just turned 15. I have made a pretty garden during lockdown. I have a lot of solar lights and usually sit there before going to bed. She has started to join me there and I've really been enjoying our chats.

DS is nearly 14 and tends to join me in bed on occasions, that's when he talks to me.

I have seen advice to try to talk to teens while driving, as side by side works well, to encourage opening up.

Where works for you?

Around the table at meal times - always the best chats - something more delicate over a walk with the dog maybe. Tried the car thing but that was not well received and they told me so!

Really weirdly I used to talk to my mum in the bath, to be fair it was the only time she used to have time for me

dc1 will talk anywhere where his siblings can't listen to our chat
dc2 talks anywhere and everywhere
dc3 will talk if coaxed but best time is while he games. He doesn't make eye contact but can't escape too

DS (18) anywhere, he's always been a talker, in fact I can't shut him up!

DD (14), she loves music so we go for drives, she plays me her music and we just talk about whatever she wants.

In the car. Mine are boys and I always get more out of them if we don't have eye contact. Also, they can't escape Grin

Oh yes, I forgot both teens usually have something 'vital' to discuss when I'm on the toilet!
