A psychopath who is obsessed with a writer, has gone through his bins and collected screwed up bits of writing, has a library filled with his books etc. He lures the writer to his house, poisons him and then stuffs him - the taxidermy is described in horrible detail - and then the stuffed writer is posed at his writing desk in the 'library' with his rubbish bin with screwed up work in it beside him. I thought it was called 'A complete collection' or something. Read it as a child but DH and DD think I dreamt it all.

Ew 😳 sounds the sort of story that would give me nightmares...

bottlenose301 · 27/08/2020 23:15

Lol doesn't ring a bell but sounds a bit like Misery Grin

it's not one of Dahl's is it? (I can't have been the only child to read Tales of the Unexpected and been slightly taken aback...)

Icedteaplease · 27/08/2020 23:18

Could possibly be by Roald Dahl? His short stories are really quite dark. Google some of his short stories and see if any fit your memory.

There used to a great collection of paperback horror stories edited by Herbert Van Tahl published in the seventies ..the Pan Book of Horror series..could have bern in one of those, they were great !

I also thought of roald Dahl but I couldn’t say for sure

The Landlady?

No I don't think it's 'The Landlady', I read the synopsis of that on Wiki and it doesn't sound like it (sounds equally horrible). I'll look up those Pan Horror books thank you (though I have no wish to ever read it again - it was in a book leant to me by a friend).

Maybe Robert Bloch who wrote Psycho.

There are 3 volumes of his short stories called "Complete Stories".

Thank you, I'll have a look at that.
