Now I’m going to get it out there I love Christmas, I have the house all decorated in the first weekend in December!! And all the presents bought and wrapped. But just seen a full blown Christmas section on this morning!! Christmas Trees decorations! apparently there already is a Christmas channel on Sky and a Christmas radio station!! John Lewis have opened up there Christmas department. It’s just to early Let’s get Halloween and bonfire night over with. Mince pies in the supermarket in September!! Really, well one will not pass my lips till 1st December, then plenty will go in for the next 28 days.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, but i think we should keep it until December, otherwise we might all just get board with it and it won’t be special because it started before the last summer bank holiday!!

I have been craving mince pies since they disappeared from our stores last year. September cant come soon enough for me! I adore Christmas and everything about it.

DinosApple

You are wright it is all so depressing, No Panto , No Christmas markets, No midnight mass, No Christmas balls, No works bring a party to a party, don’t think my dh parents will be able to come because they are in there 80,s. We always go to Edinburgh for Hogmanay it’s cancelled!.

It’s so bad even my bar hum bug husband has said he is going to make a big effort with decorating the outside of the house this year. To Cheer up the street!!

I bet they will cancel all the firework displays On the 5th November. It’s all just pants!!

Completely agree! I also saw that segment on this morning .
I’m a Christmas fanatic , start buying in September, from end of November we start the Christmas crafts etc BUT this is August ! It’s even too early for me!

Normally I’d agree too early, but not this year. I’ve been thinking and planning Christmas things since mid lockdown.

zigaziga · 28/08/2020 08:49

And I’d be extremely surprised if our fireworks display happens.

For one thing, it’s paid for by the council and I think they could do without it this year.

Pearsapiece · 28/08/2020 08:50

I have to admit, I'm usually Mrs Christmas and absolutely love it... But even I hold off until its 1st November at least. Its way to early now. There's a difference between looking forward to stuff and acting on it!

AuntieStella · 28/08/2020 08:53

You do know there's a whole topic for this??

And in previous years, MNetters have been really considerate in posting only in the topic until the start of Advent.

At the very minimum adhering to the traditional norm, it means threads don't get endlessly scribbled on by those who think it's too early to start.

SnuggyBuggy · 28/08/2020 09:01

The problem is what else is there to look forward to

ShinyRuby · 28/08/2020 09:07

Off to get 2 tubs of Quality Street/Celebrations from local Co-Op in a bit (2 for £9!)
I'll be hiding them very well until December Grin

Nanalisa60 · 28/08/2020 09:29

ShinyRuby

More willpower then me!! Come Saturday night few gins in and I would be rummaging in the back of the cupboard looking for those quality street!!

We are on holiday in a little Devon village and one of the gift shops has a Christmas corner. I suppose they might have it all year round though. Or they might be thinking the amount of visitors they have now is the highest it will be all year so they may as well put out the Christmas stuff now.

Nanalisa60 · 28/08/2020 09:35

If you don’t like the thread!! Then don’t read it!! Simples!!

AuntieStella · 28/08/2020 09:59

How on earth did you get the idea I didn't like the thread?

I love Christmas threads.

That is not mutually exclusive with a wish that people use the topic a out of consideration for those who don't

It's a brilliant topic, active year round. And I really recommend it to people.

Do come over!

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 28/08/2020 10:03

Well, the big choccy tubs are also sold with Halloween in mind - they're usually £4 now, will go up to £5 for Halloween then go down again for November, back up for Christmas.

I'm making chutney and pickles this weekend to put away to mature for Christmas.

But other than that, yes it annoys me. I can understand getting the odd bauble in if they're expensive - buy a couple in August, Sept and so on. Went on holiday to Devon in Oct last year and all the garden centres we stopped at for a break were festooned with icicles and Silent Night. Silly.

GreyGardens88 · 28/08/2020 10:06

This happens every year, why are you only getting worked up about it now?

@ShinyRuby £20 says you've found them and have only empty tubs by Monday night Grin

llangollen28 · 28/08/2020 17:08

OP I agree with you. Let's have autumn first.

NatFig · 02/09/2020 18:30

I think it is too early for that, although I love it; I am very excited because this year I will be able to see the best prices to the things I like; I just found this app for my iphone, it is called Your Best Option, and it let me see the best prices for my turkey. I recommend.

nosswith · 02/09/2020 19:17

I agree with the OP.

In the US at least with Thanksgiving much of this does not happen until late November.

Perhaps if Christmas stuff had double VAT between July and the end of November, this nonsense could end.

millymae · 02/09/2020 19:33

Hasn’t Christmas always has come early to the shops?
About 15 years ago mum and dad took us on a sightseeing holiday to a London. Harrods christmas department opened on 17 August which was my brothers birthday - he was most excited!
