Etsy CV Templates

I've found a job I really want. I have a CV already done - but it's not very stand outty and for this job it will need to be. I've been looking on Etsy for a template but there's so much choice.

Thought I would put it out to the floor: what's your favourite Etsy CV Template please.

[quote KaleWhale]Thank you for the last two comments. It's split industry - predominantly third sector though.

I think I like this one but would swap the photograph to my initials as I am not a fan of photographs on CV and I don't want to highlight my ethnicity.

I don't think that would look right with initials.

If you wanted to use that template, you would move the text in the left coloured panel up, and remove the background colour from the name in the right panel.

But this doesn't look any better than the free templates built into word processing software.

Something clean like this is marginally more interesting than most CVs, but not quirky enough to look like you've tried too hard:

Hi @KaleWhale it was this one!

I looked at the one you've posted but the photo put me off! You don't necessarily have to be a teacher for the one I used, just edit the text!

sunnysidegold · 27/08/2020 14:28

Thanks op for showing me these exist! I'm writing my CV at the moment and these just seem to have a much nicer layout than I've made.

Gosh, no wonder you're not getting jobs with that attitude! I don't think a fancy-looking CV will fix it.

KaleWhale · 27/08/2020 15:24

@sunnysidegold You are welcome.

Thanks to everyone else who's come back with helpful suggestions and shared templates. There are some really, really loves ones out there.

I had no idea this was a thing!

fartyface · 27/08/2020 15:43

I didnt know this was a thing either but they look very professional. I normally apply for roles with application forms but I have one in the offing which needs a CV. I might actually buy one.

I thought it would be pink and frilly or something but it isnt at all!!

MyPersona · 27/08/2020 16:03

@oceanbreezy

I had no idea this was a thing!
It isn’t a thing. CVs are increasingly read by software now for one thing, so fancy formatting can be a disadvantage. Being scanned by a human you just want a clear, easy to read format which highlights the relevant skills in the top one third of the first page.
TheDogsMother · 27/08/2020 16:04

Do you have access to Microsoft Word. If so there are loads of free templates on there including ones similar to your Etsy example.

KaleWhale · 27/08/2020 16:05

It isn’t a thing

I guess you haven't seen the thousands of CV Templates on Etsy, Fivequid, Word, Google Docs.

KaleWhale · 27/08/2020 16:06

@TheDogsMother I do, but I don't like any of them. I think I have found an Etsy one to go with though.

Canva is free and there are great designs on there

motherofawhirlwind · 27/08/2020 17:19

Head of HR and Recruitment here. If you're applying online your CV won't be on a table. It'll be read online. Probably by software first that will look for keywords. Online submissions via sites like Indeed often strip out your formatting to make the CVs all look similar too.

Honestly, concentrate on the content.

fartyface · 27/08/2020 17:22

ooh I am head of HR and Recruitment too. snap.

Not all organisations have sophisticated recruitment software. It is a source of great disappointment to me how many want you to email an application or CV.

A smart looking CV will do no harm.

KaleWhale · 27/08/2020 18:50

Thanks for the feedback - however, I do know the process, including the initial sift process, so yes I do know my CV will be on a table. And no, I am not applying online. The content is not the issue at all, that bit I am confident with.

A smart looking CV will do no harm Exactly, I really wish people would understand that I have researched this, discussed it with others, gotten to know the process and have worked out the best way for me to succeed.
