Inheritance and social housing

Family member left very generous inheritance, due to inherit around 25k.

We currently live paycheck to paycheck and couldn't be more grateful.

We've started to realise how life changing this could be, we're expecting dc2 and I will use this to get driving and a car!

One question we've thought of- will we have to move out of our council house?
If so do they give us a time limit to find somewhere else?

Anyone got experience with this please??

It’s been a while since I lived in a council house but I was never asked how much I earned or if I had any savings.

No you wont

Cheesypea · 26/08/2020 21:38

No op, enjoy the money.

Don’t think so. Seem to recall a lot of hoo-ha fairly recently because a successful public figure had not moved out of his council flat because he was happy there (MP or Union leader I think but it’s a bit hazy). FWIW I think he was wrong.

Much as £25,000 is fantastic for you and I hope you really enjoy it, it’s not in the same league, you don’t need to worry.

Have fun 😁

No you don't enjoy your inheritance.

notapizzaeater · 26/08/2020 21:52

No it won't but it will affect UC if you get that

AnotherEmma · 26/08/2020 21:54

Sorry for your loss.
No, the inheritance won't affect your council tenancy.
Are you receiving any benefits at the moment? Tax credits, housing benefit, universal credit?

Chloemol · 26/08/2020 21:56

No, but it may affect any benefits
