Merpeople Poo.

They always look so elegant in documentaries about them, but how do they do a poo? Do they just let it trail out and swim away from it like a goldfish? Toilets are no good underwater.
And I've seen film of whole cities of merpeople. What about public health? I assume their cities are quite easy to find due to a vast expanse of merfolk floaters on the sea above. I did ask at work and it was suggested they probably have a special field just outside town for it.
Any experts in?

I just asked my ten year old and she said they don't need to poo as they don't eat anything. Now come on OP, have you ever seen a merperson eat? Well?!!

Alwaystheoddoneout · 27/08/2020 20:02

Do mermaids have periods? I take it they can't use sanitary towels if they're always swimming.

Don't they shit glitter and rainbows, like unicorns?

SleepingStandingUp · 27/08/2020 20:10

If Ariel's Dad can sit on a literal throne, they can sit on a loo. High power suction that deposits the poo deep into the sea bed.

I'm more interested in how they have sex. In fish, the female chucks out eggs and the bloke basically ejaculates in them. That's no fun. No wonder Ariel wanted legs

sqirrelfriends · 27/08/2020 20:11

They're a highly civilised society and make their poops in a special suction toilets, like astronauts.

Please don't compare them to goldfish, it's insulting.

SummerHouse · 27/08/2020 20:13

I think we found a specimen of merpeople floater on the coast at Porto Christo. The fish were eating it. Envy

Perhaps it tastes of rainbows.

Not my best snorkeling session.

yeOldeTrout · 27/08/2020 20:19

Don't fish have sex & defecate out the same hole (Cloaca?), which is more front than back? Since fish pee is good for eco-systems then I guess mer-folk just drink it up, too. Don't some fish eat other fish poo? So that's just dandy, too.

Maybe they have symbiotic fish that follow them around and eat it?

anon5000 · 27/08/2020 20:57

Maybe they are not real.

Pickles89 · 27/08/2020 21:00

@tinkerbellvspredator

THAT would explain the extreme sparkle of the sea on a summer's day!

Mysterian · 27/08/2020 21:10

Maybe they're not real Anon500, but can we afford to take that chance?

@anon5000

Maybe they are not real.
Well that's a weird assertion. U don't know how it poos so it doesn't exist?
Mysterian · 27/08/2020 21:20

I've not seen one personally, although it's not like I ever swim anywhere warm enough to just wear a couple of shells.

But I've seen pictures:

And now I see what attracted Ariel to Prince Eric.

They don’t eat much solid food, mainly they absorb nutrients through their skin. So they only need an occasional cleansing. This is done in the calm waters of the Sargasso Sea, where the brown Sargassum seaweed proves invaluable to the mer folk.

You know that picture isn't a real merman right? It's actually a walrus
