A question about employing someone

We want to ask someone to pick up DC from school once a week for a small, fixed fee. Probably 3 out of every 4 weeks this academic year, term time only.

Said person has another job, which amounts to a lot of hours.

If we don't pay cash in hand, how complicated does the tax get? What do I have to do? What are the pitfalls?

Far simpler to ask her to invoice you and she works on a self employed basis.

@ChaChaCha2012

Would she then have to get an accountant to file her different payment structures etc? Thinking of it from her POV too. She won't want that hassle. She's probably not registered as self employed either
