Ecoegg for laundry

I've just ordered these and have since read some reviews and see they are very mixed!

Yes I could have read reviews before but I didn't realised how long they'd been around otherwise I'd have googled it!

If you've tried them, please let me know what you think of it and any tips are most welcome!

I have been using mine for two years I like it but I still use fabric conditioner because I like the smell, i figure it's still less plastic than with out it and we have saved loads on detergent I'm still on the original and haven't had to buy any refills. Very happy with the cleaning!

BunnyLovesBananas · 25/08/2020 20:23

That's good to know @wrensandrobins

I actually bought one for me and one for my DM and was not sure which scent to keep but the reviews suggest they scents are not very strong!

I bought one but I was really disappointed with it. My clothes seemed to be clean (but they don't get particularly stained or dirty to start with), but the "clean cotton" fragrance wore off after about 5-6 washes and then my clothes started to have a weird, almost musty/damp smell when dried. My machine is cleaned regularly and I don't get the same smell when I use powder so I could only put it down to the ecoegg. I only used it for a couple of weeks and it's been sat in the drawer ever since.

I've had them for over 10 years. The ones I had first were ace. The more recent ones less good on whites. I do use it on colour washes still. I find that the egg wears out before the balls dissolve, and I have found its come apart in the machine a few times. The design has changed since I last bought, tho, so this may mo longer be an issue. I tend to use white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner, but the results don't change with or without.

I like them, and they clean normally soiled clothes well. You may still need detergent on heavily soiled washes, bit the Ecoegg stain remover is fabulous.

I considered them. Read reviews and didn't bother. Went with a plastic free detergent subscription instead

Indecisivelurcher · 25/08/2020 20:39

It's a strong OK, not amazing. If clothes are very dirty (kids!) then I bung some powder in instead.

BillyAndTheSillies · 25/08/2020 20:42

I really wanted to love them but clothes weren't coming out clean. Black T-shirt's coming out of the wash with deodorant marks under the arms etc.

I wasn't impressed with them at all. My whites ended up going grey and some washing just didn't seem as clean. I think the results you get depend on whether you have hard or soft water. I have very hard water so wouldn't recommend ecoegg if you have hard water.

whiplashy · 25/08/2020 22:38

Another unimpressed. Didn’t work nearly as well as washing powder

BunnyLovesBananas · 25/08/2020 22:43

Not great reviews but I've got it now!

I got a deal on qvc for about £20 I got 1080 washes plus the stain remover so I suppose I'll give it a try but annoying that I bought two if it's not great!

Also because it comes with a washing machine cleaner tablet I wondered if it was not advisable to switch between the eco egg and normal washing powder or liquid

At least with qvc you can return it if it doesn't work for you.

BunnyLovesBananas · 26/08/2020 13:34

Yes I thought that

Or I will just use it for things that don't need much cleaning like sometimes I can do almost a rinse wash for jeans and leggings
