Pear necklace

Trying to find a gift for my mum. I know she would loveee a 14 carat pearl necklace but I think I can push for 18 carat. She never buys anything for herself always for us. I found exactly what I'm looking for but was thinking what part of necklace is 18 carat :/ sorry if that sounds silly.

I found the necklace on John Lewis website so I won't be worried about whether it's real or not? 😅

The Carats refer to the metal - usually gold. Purer gold = higher carats = more expensive

If it's a string of pearls of the sort I'm imagining, only the clasp will be gold.

Plus, I would quite like a pear necklace! I bought a sterling silver broccoli brooch only last week Grin

AntiSocialDistancer · 25/08/2020 20:06

For a pearl necklace I really wouldnt mind on the carat of the fixings presuming she wasnt allergic to cheaper jewellery.

You sound like a really thoughtful daughter 🌺

Thack · 25/08/2020 20:06

That mught be a lucky typo, I'd wonder what I was letting myself in for with the correct title! 😂

Maybe pop them an email asking if it comes with any ID? I'd be inclined to trust them, they would lose too much reputation to scam.

dun1urkin · 25/08/2020 20:08

Don’t get an 18 carat clasp, it’s a bit soft for the part of the necklace that gets the most battering.

flourella · 25/08/2020 20:10

The higher the purity of gold, the softer it is, so I would consider the 14 carat or even 9 carat to be honest. It's only going to be the fastening and will hardly diminish the item as a piece of jewellery, and certainly not the thought behind the gift.

Kitkat05 · 25/08/2020 20:11

@Covidiot haha 😂😂 that made me laugh!! Thanks!

@BathTangle Thank you for that info!

@flourella yes a string of pearls! Only the clasp (shock face) that's just one.. I thought the pearls would contain gold too 😂

@AntiSocialDistancer aww thanks. She just lovess pearls so much. She already has one but with no carot. She just dreams of one with carot

Giving your mum a pearl necklace...

If you were a man, that'd mean something very VERY different... 😝

Kitkat05 · 25/08/2020 20:18

@MonkeyToesOfDoom I don't think there is any point in getting her something else when I know if she could she would get herself a pearl necklace :)

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2020 20:18

I suppose you could make a necklace with a cutted up pear...Grin
(Sorry. Someone had to).

I'm sure your mother will love the pearl necklace.

Kitkat05 · 25/08/2020 20:18

@Aworldofmyown thank you soo much for that!! Looking at it now! Very kind of you!

.... Thats the rudest thing I've ever read on here... And most puzzling.. how would she give herself a pearl necklace I wonder? The logistics would be interesting...

TwentyViginti · 25/08/2020 20:34

@amusedbush

Pearl necklace...

TwentyViginti · 25/08/2020 20:37

OP, I'm bemused you would think pearls have gold in them? They are made by oysters.

Funguy · 25/08/2020 20:50

It is the clasp that is gold and carries the carat. 14carat is plenty as no one sees the clasp.
Stop with the silly jokes now. It was a typo.
