what's that expression?

I'm trying to remember an expression along the lines of "Ask yourself what would a barely competent man do" - it's about leaning in/asking for what a bloke would ask for.

but it's not "barely competent" - can anyone remember the phrase? I read it on the feminist board but it's hard to google.

The only thing I can think is, "the man on the Clapham omnibus". It's probably not that.
