Teacher early pregnancy, September start

Hi,

I have just found out I am pregnant and will be 6 weeks when schools start back in September. As it is early days, I really don't want to tell anyone but I am slightly anxious about being in a classroom with 30 year 1 children (plus 1 adult) with no social distancing having to take place within our bubble. I will also have a couple of children who will need toilet changing (can wear PPE for this).

Is there anyone else in a similar situation? How are you feeling? I have read other posts but these teacher's seem to be in their 2nd or 3rd trimester or were posted May/June time and things have changed since then with regards to the guidelines etc.

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations. I really think you should tell your headteacher and deputy so that they can carry out a proper risk assessment. Just make it clear that you don’t want anyone else to know so that they are discreet. They will be professional if you don’t want anyone else to know, but they have a duty of care to try and keep everyone in school safe, including the staff.

I teach secondary age pupils but as part of a central service that tutors students who are too ill to attend mainstream. I'll be 14 weeks when I return to work (I'm having September off as I've had to rearrange visiting my brother in France from Easter - I'm not tied to term time availability).

I'd definitely tell your head to enable a risk assessment. I'd also seek union advice.

I'll be speaking to my managers when I get back from France. Luckily I think the risks for my role are much lower than for staff based in schools

Thank you both. I think I will tell him just to put my mind at ease that everything is being done that can be. Thanks for the advice. And congratulations UserOne 😊
