Tamoxifen itching - any advice?

A friend is taking tamoxifen and really struggling with the side effects, which for her are exhaustion, low mood and itching. I wondered if anyone had any advice for anything which can relieve the itching (I’m thinking there’s not much to do about the other two, but happy to be wrong)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is it worth her speaking to the consultant for an alternative medication? She could be taking it for ten years, so probably doesn’t want to be itching for that period. It could help with the other side effects also.

Regarding the itching, an antihistamine cream from the pharmacy?

I presume the tamoxifen is for breast cancer. I found after I had finished the treatment that I felt worse than during the process. It’s as if the enormity if what has happened suddenly catches up with you and hits you. Maybe worth speaking to the gp if the low mood continues, and get a lowdose antidepressant.

How long has she been on it? Maybe speak to a pharmacist. I've been lucky with no big side effects.

I have read though that different brands of tamoxifen suit different people as the casing of the drugs are different. Could it be that a different brand would suit her better?

Thanks, she is speaking to her GP but thought it was worth checking out the collective MN wisdom too!
