I mailed some perfume over 2 weeks ago. At about the 2 week mark, the buyer contacted me to say it hadn’t arrived.
My tracking from Royal Mail says it arrived the next day.
I’m not sure what to do next?

I’ve asked her to check bins / neighbors etc.
She has mentioned contacting the police / as she thinks it might have been stolen.
Thank u 😊

It was too big to fit through a letterbox!

Royal Mail would have left a card if they had been unable to deliver too

withlotsoflove · 24/08/2020 17:14

That’s a good point @Nanasueathome.
True. :)

There are so many chancers around. I haven't ebayed anything recently but always send tracked to try and preclude this sort of behaviour.

If RM says it is delivered and buyer says it wasn't, does EBay/PayPal still automatically side with buyer?

withlotsoflove · 24/08/2020 17:45

I think they will @TheWayOfTheWorld
It’s annoying as my instinct tells me she is bullshitting. Why wait 2 weeks? I marked as dispatched the very next day after sale - and it arrived the day after!
I’d have been looking out for it.
I also had a buyer ask if she could return the perfume she purchased. as “ She didn’t like it!”
I’m not a shop / and u wouldn’t get it back in those circumstances either! Grin

If the tracking shows delivered the buyer will lose the item not received case.

mrsgtobe97 · 24/08/2020 17:53

This happened to me, PayPal / eBay won't side with the buyer if you have tracking information saying delivered as you have completed your side of the deal, she is a chancer! Give her the tracking number, screenshot of it being delivered and tell her to contact Royal Mail. More than likely she is just at it!

Bitconfused75 · 24/08/2020 17:54

I had this situation and called the sorting office myself - turned out to have been left down a side return and she was able to track it down.
If it says delivered, Paypal/ebay will side with you - but worth investigating as the postman will keep a record of where they left it.

motherof2masterofnone · 24/08/2020 17:55

Yeah she's bullshitting!

Pop the tracking information on the sold item where it says add tracking.

Chances are she'll know she can't get away with it and not mention it again.... or it will magically turn up.

If she carries on eBay can see it's been delivered and you'll win any case that's opened.

This does not always mean the buyer is ‘chancing it’. I have had few deliveries goes missing ( not RM though) where they stated delivered. Turns out they had left the items on my drive, under my window or under my mat(!) all of course stolen.

mrsgtobe97 · 24/08/2020 19:28

@withlotsoflove if she wat work then that's her issue, Royal Mail will have left a "we missed you" card for her, if she didn't receive one then she can still phone up the depot and ask if there is anything there for her or if they left it anywhere 😊

PennyDreadfuI · 24/08/2020 20:58

We've had issues lately where our postman has left stuff on our doorstep while we were out and signed in our names to say it'd been delivered. Once I was 40 miles away and got an email to say a signed for item bad been delivered! We've complained to the post office twice - once after an item went missing from the doorstep - but it's still happening. PayPal refunded us for the missing item.

Even if an item has been signed for, it doesn't necessarily mean the recipient is the one who's signed (or received) it.

withlotsoflove · 24/08/2020 21:39

Thank u for the latest help.
I’ll see if she gets back to me again... it makes just no sense.
Especially as she waited 2 weeks to inform me!

Royal mail have been shit lately. A DVD that DD wanted showed as delivered, I was in that day and it was big enough to fit through the letterbox, never had a thing or a card. Searched everywhere outside as well.

Another time the neighbour brought my parcels around as they took them next door, never bothered to tell me they were there though!

Reently I rearranged delivery of jewellery as they were due to deliver 2 days earlier than they were supposed to and I wasn't going to be in, rearrangement confirmed, came home to find a ring worth a few hundred sat on my sodding doorstep in view of everyone, not even hidden somewhere.

RM have gone right down the pan.

hedwigismyowl · 24/08/2020 21:50

I ordered trousers thru eBay, delivered by Royal Mail. The seller msg me that they posted it, I hadn't, kept her updated every cpl days. Asked for refund from them, she got refund from Royal Mail...2 weeks later, 4 weeks after ordering, it arrived!

Thelnebriati · 24/08/2020 21:57

You really need to put the tracking number in when you mark the item delivered or Ebay will no longer automatically find in your favour. That might be why she's chancing it.

Cuddling57 · 24/08/2020 22:01

We get loads of stuff left on our doorstep by loads of delivery companies. I'm thinking of putting a notice up!
This isn't your fault though so you shouldn't have to refund.
