Hello,
So I’m thinking of going back into the public sector from the private sector after mat leave, the reason being the jobs are much more secure and we have two small children and DH job fairly unstable since covid. I also really enjoyed my public sector job so would like to go back to it.
I’m on mat leave, had an interview yesterday and was offered the job. Essentially I have to come back to work for 12 weeks otherwise I have to pay back my enhanced maternity pay which I can’t afford to do. To hand in my 12 weeks notice do I do it my first day back in work? Or do the 6 weeks prior to this when I am back on payroll but using accrued A/L count as this? So can hand my notice in now, go back to work in 6 weeks and then work 6 weeks and leave?
Also I’m sorry if some people find this unfair to the employer taking mat leave, going back and then leaving I completely understand and feel very worried about it. But lots of redundancies are being made at work (I imagine I may be in the next lot) and I’ve been offered a really good job so I think I may just have to be selfish and suffer the guilt (which is crushing me!).
