So in the process of buying a house with DH after 5 years of living in flats. Part of me is very anxious about it as big financial commitment so making a list of what i am (and am not looking forward to). anyone have any other good things they're looking forward to:

Pros:

  • lots more space and no more tripping over my coffee tables
  • more space in the kitchen for baking
  • more space for entertaining
  • Having a separate washer and drier so no more fluffiness on my clothes
  • being able to run said washer or dryer at whatever time of day or night I fancy without my downstairs neighbour complaining
  • not having to deal with others fly tipping in my bin store
  • having the bins near me and not having to go up and down stairs to take the bins out
  • Having a garden
  • being closer to my family
  • not having the bathroom door right next to my head when I sleep

Cons

  • having to go upstairs to bed/when i forget something
  • having a big mortgage
  • cleaning three toilets!!

Anyone have anything else?

We moved from a flat to a house in February. It's a bit change so normal to feel anxious but I highly recommend it! The extra space and garden is amazing, and I was grateful for it every day during lockdown. I was a bit worried about extra cleaning and the time it would take, but it's been fine. Ditto having to go up and down stairs - you get used to it and I barely notice it now. Enjoy your new house!

Honestly the best thing about moving from a flat to a house was not feeling like there was so much noise from everywhere. Footsteps above and below you. Music blaring etc.

That, and being able to throw the doors open and step in to the garden for a morning coffee. Lovely.

I really can't see any cons. When I was buying my first place years ago I was looking at flats, in the end I bought a small house and I'm so glad I did.

Thanks. I thought of another one

  • having my own drive way and not having to bay park one car between two very inconsiderate neighbours who have massive cars that go to the edge of the bay and leave the other one on the street
