How do I help my husband?

My husband has always been a big man....the last time he was weighed he was 33 stones and I suspect he's still around that.

His weight has never been an issue for me ...he was already overweight when I met him and I have always just accepted him as he is.

We are both now in our 50s, been married over 20 years and although his weight has gone up I've just accepted him as he is. His weight means we no longer have sex but as I am pretty much asexual this is okay with me.

However he is definitely having weight related issues, not least some lymphoedema (I think that's correct) ...he has very swollen lower legs which very occasionally leak fluid ...due to skin breakdown. He's had a skin breakdown last week and has a small open area which is oozing. I'm contacting the GP tomorrow as it's been over a week.

I do think exercise is key as I suspect circulation issues. I don't know about diets but I suspect he needs to look at calories and what his body needs are daily. Then reduce that by 500 calories a day so it's sustainable long term.

I'm also worrying about he possibility he might have a medical crisis upstairs as if that happens I don't know how medical personel would get him out.

He works self employed and gets exercise when he does this but it's not enough. I'd like us both to walk every day.

I cook at home but can't control what he eats out of the house.

I just don't know where to turn to help him.

He knows he needs help and my first contact will be the GP

He takes blood pressure medication and a diuretic every day.

I don't know what help he needs most or how to help him with things,

As a family we don't have lots of stuff like takeaways (once in a blue moon) and I cook from scratch. I just don't know is what he's eating which is maintaining this weight. While his family are all overweight none of them have the same weight problem my husband does.

I feel like his mother ...and he's always been enabled by his family in lots of ways. I've made peace with this as he is and always has been great with our DS who is autistic.

Any advice...links?
