Just burnt the tip of two fingers (one on each hand), whilst making a once in a blue moon fry up for DH and I. Was trying not to break the yolk and got far too close to the oil, which splashed up.

Jesus wept, it was excruciating. I cried, and I haven't done that from pain since I was a kid. Can't take them out of the ice cold bowl of water I've had them in for the past 45 minutes for more than 30 seconds without the searing pain coming back (writing this using the dictation function!).

Shall I just amputate and get it over with (Melodramatic? Me?).

Owowowowow.

2 finger tips you say??? That's nothing 😁

I once put a stainless steel saucepan full of mince in a hot cooker because I had to pop out and didn't want to leave it simmering on the stove top. When I came I very carefully took it out of the oven using oven gloves but then picked it up by the handle to move to off the stove Angry my whole palm and all my fingers were burnt. I then spent the rest of the day looking after a toddler with one had in a bowl of ice cold water, and the second the water was anything less than icy cold the pain returned. 17 years later I still remember that pain 😲

we have a stair gate to stop dog going upstairs and a while back i was coming down the stairs and somehow slipped on the 2nd step above it landed on my lower back continued to slide down the stairs and hit the stair gate bar at the bottom full force. had a lovely bruise a huge one and could hardly sit down.
the other week i was moving the printer and we had it at the time on a fold up wooden table. flex got caught and the table went over smacking my big toe right on the nail bed still black and blue

At least that's an understandable injury. I ran into a leaf today. It drew blood.

I once decided to check whether the hob was still hot by playing my hand on it. It wasn't. That was 20 years ago and I still remember the pain.

tiredanddangerous · 23/08/2020 17:26

That should say it was Blush

SoupDragon · 23/08/2020 17:27

One of my early childhood memories is of a gas fire in our dining room. I remember thinking "I know the metal grill is not and will burn my finger but will it burn my toe..."

Unsurprisingly, yes it did 😂

Urm.....

I used to play skate hockey and had many a&e visits. 14 rib fractures, 2 black eyes and a broken wrist later i got pregnant and haven't played since :(

My son has an impressive scar on the back of his hand from when he was about 2. We warned him many times that the oven door is hot and pots/pans on the stove top are hot too. He had to check. Probably wouldn't have even left a scar, but it turned out that he is allergic to iodine. So the small thing that could have been kissed away turned into a blistering nightmare and a trip to minor injuries unit. We couldn't have know, but i felt guilty for years.

Poor kid... a few years ago we had this game to see how much he grew by opening the kitchen wall cupboard door. Well, he grew. A lot.
I bang it right into his head. Since then it's a running joke and didn't scar him for life. :)

RandomMess · 23/08/2020 18:34

The worst burns is when you think "shit I've just burnt myself" and it doesn't hurt for a little when and then the pain kicks in 😢

Vinosaurus · 23/08/2020 18:38

Whaaaat? Please elaborate (was it a holly leaf?).

I am now writing with my fingers - not the ones I burnt, but it's progress. Have snipped our aloe plant and rubbed the cut end on the burns, which is really helping.

I'm now reminiscng about historical incidents - such as putting my calf against a burning hot moped exhaust on the Cook Islands (in my younger, carefree backpacking days). One of the locals made a sort of poultice with plants, it worked absolute wonders.

DD has a tiny scar just under her lip from about the same age as your DS. Told her loads of times to get down from the chair whilst she was supposed to be eating her dinner, kid size chair but still high enough to hurt if you fell of it - well, she did fall off it and managed to put her fork halfway through her lip.

It's clearly hereditary.

I wasn't fully looking where I was going (eyes on uneven pavement rather than surrounding bushes) and ran into some very hard leaf. I don't know what the plant was but long and thin and pointy at the end, similar to aloe. I swore a little and continued, it wasn't until I got home I realised I had blood dripping down my shoulder!

We had a bbq on the beach many years ago not long after I’d met my husband. I was cleaning up and moved the disposable bbq to put it in the bin and I saw orange/red sand. For some bizarre reason, of which I will never understand seeing as I’m quite an intelligent person, I decided to touch this beautiful sand Shock. Massive burns to all four of the tips of my fingers on my right hand...genuinely not a clue how I didn’t make the connection between the hot bbq and the fact sand is molten when heated Hmm

Vinosaurus · 23/08/2020 20:16

My god Hurty (any link?) that must have been agonising! Sometimes, and in pretty much all case of ridiculous injuries, our brain just hasn't quite clicked into gear during the seconds preceding it.

I’m hobbling around in a huge moonboot because last weekend I stumbled on a wonky paving slab and tore the ligaments in my ankle. I was sober as a judge and wearing sensible trainers so I don’t even have a ‘hilarious’ drinking story to tell.

I spent last Sunday evening waiting for an x-ray at minor injuries, cursing my clumsiness. The pain is awful and both the nurse at MI and my GP said I would have been better breaking the bone as it’s quicker and easier to heal than soft tissue Sad

WellThatHurt · 23/08/2020 20:31

Hope youre feeling less sore now OP.

When i was young i went outside to my grandeds shed and picked up a piece of metal thinking he had dropped it, nope, turns out he had just been welding a steel plate and and hung it out the way when he heard me and my sister arrive..it had burned through the rope and i got to it before he realised it had fallen.. ouch.

StillMedusa · 23/08/2020 20:42

DH and me were in Malta on a romantic 'we met here two years ago' holiday. It was festival week and hand held flares were given out.

DH's promptly exploded in his hand Shock As we were by the water's edge he plunged his arm into the water while saying' I think I'm going to need attention..'

No kidding, spent the rest of the holiday going to the burns unit each morning.. luckily the owner of the apartments we stayed at were family friends..and one of the consultants at the hospital!

He was lucky not to lose his fingers.

Eminybob · 23/08/2020 20:44

I stood in a camp fire once ( on purpose, long story) and my foot was beyond agony. I was literally screaming with pain and couldn’t walk for several days.
Burns are the worst. Worse than childbirth I reckon.

amusedbush (great name) - sorry you're suffering (and everyone else recovering from ridiculous injuries), soft tissue damage is a bitch.

Sadly not lol, I am very accident prone yet I got to the grand old age of 30 before I broke a bone! Walked past the chairs at my kitchen table (that have sat there for YEARS in the SAME place), and somehow I kicked a chair leg mid stride and broke a toe...whilst pregnant with only paracetamol for pain relief! Worst part was I was on my way for a vital brow appointment and had to cancel because I couldn’t get my shoes on lol!! Did it again 3 weeks later doing the exact same thing, but silver lining it corrected the wonky heal from the first break! And that’s how I ended up with house slippers for Christmas from my husband lol
Eminybob · 23/08/2020 21:39

@Vinosaurus

Yeah. I was very drunk and trying to emulate a fire walking course I’d been on previously.

Last year I fell/tripped down some stairs and landed awkwardly on my left hand, middle finger was in pain, went to hospital a few days later when the swelling was still there and turns out I displaced the knuckle on the middle finger and tore the ligaments, no treatment other than to let it heal naturally and exercise the finger, a year later I have a wonky finger that I can't bend

Animum2 · 23/08/2020 21:51

I worked at a donut factory years ago and part of the job involved melting the icing which came packed thick so it would be melted for a period of time in a microwave in a plastic container, anyway 1 time I went to take the container out and the icing which had been in their for 10 mins slipped over the top of the container and straight on to my wrist, it was very hot and my immediate reaction was to rub it off, big mistake as it brought up the skin and made it worse, I did run it over a cold tap but by then the damage was done, took a while to heal and I have a little scar now
