Cheque?

My mum has received a cheque from our borough.. just says £50. Doesn't say what it is for. Top of the letter / cheque says remittance advice and a sentence saying important information for suppliers of goods and services to the council.

Has anyone received anything like this before?

I'm so confused!

Is there a number on the letter to ring?

Kitkat05 · 22/08/2020 17:28

@QuestionableMouse there is but only mon- fri. Just so curious. Why would they send it

Obviously your mother's best bet is to speak to the Borough Council.

Has she cancelled anything like garden waste collection? Or have they? Any changes to community charges would usually be done by crediting her account.

It could be a money laundering scam so that if she banks it, she gets a follow-up letter saying it was a mistake and can she refund it.

Look at the sort code and bank account number on the cheque and see if she can match it to the Borough Councils account details which would be on her community charge invoice / statement.

I wouldn't bank the cheque until I knew what it was...

My friend had this and it was because she paid to much council tax.

@Snowpatrolling aw thanks for that. Does make sense
