How would you do potatoes on a bbq?

Stupid question but my friend gave me a load of spuds from his garden & we’re having a bbq later. I want to use them up. How would you do them?
Just wrap in foil & chuck on coals? It’s not a big bbq so I need to be time efficient...

Yes baked in foil in the coals, Or pre cook and make into potato salad when they are cold so you don’t need to bbq them at all.

I do two different potato dishes on the bbq

  1. Chop them into little squares and pop in microwave for about 5 mins. Cover in a bit of paprika and oil and wrap in foil. Then onto bbq for about twenty.

Or

  1. Cut into wedges - again stuck in microwave for about five minutes. Wrap in streaky bacon - whack on bbq (directly as the wedges should be thick enough not to fall through).

It’s the microwaving bit that helps - it softens them up a bit so they don’t have to cook forever and still end up hard.

Ahhh annoyingly I don’t have a microwave! I like the sound of the bacon. Wonder if I can just parboil them instead?

Thanks!

Par-Boiling could work - maybe even just soaking them for a while in cold water. It’s about softening the middle.
I’d make sure they really dry off before sticking in the foil though. The bacon one is amazing with sweet potatoes but works well with normal ones too.

We boil baby potatoes then put into foil parcels with various additions , garlic and butter , herbs , paprika and some olive oil etc - just chuck them on the bbq to heat through and tear open

Google hasselback potatoes. They are delicious and easy to cook in the embers of the BBQ. Because they are cut part way through they cook quite quickly.
