Holiday Q

I have started a new job (40hrs over 4 days) reading through my contract relating to holiday it states this:

“You are entitled to 20 days paid holiday during each holiday year or the pro rata equivalent if you work part time, three of which must be taken during the Christmas closure or the pro-rated equivalent. In addition, you are entitled to take the usual public holidays subject to the requirements of the business, on a bank holiday week you will be required to work the remaining 4 days of that week.”

Am I right in thinking that by dictating we have to work an ‘extra’ day on bank holiday weeks that the legal 5.6days holiday isn’t being adhered too?

I read it as you take the bank holiday but have to work the rest of the week that the BH falls in. Ie: if the BH is a Monday, you cannot take the Tuesday off and have a long weekend

So I don’t work Fridays, if there is a bank holiday Monday - they are then saying I have to work the Friday so effectively working an extra day...

Well no, because you are part time.

Well you aren't part time, you know what I mean.

I read it that you have to work the rest of a b hol week, so you need to work tue to thur.

applepineapple · 21/08/2020 19:46

So instead of your Friday off, you have the Monday instead

dementedpixie · 21/08/2020 19:52

But then she hasn't had the holiday

dementedpixie · 21/08/2020 20:00

You are entitled to 22.4 days or 224 hours with working 4 days out of 5. If they make you still work 4 days in a bank holiday week then you aren't getting a holiday that week. As long as you get to take the above days/hours you are ok

topcat2014 · 21/08/2020 21:08

I don't think you can be asked to work on one of your non working days tbh

Bluespace · 21/08/2020 22:09

It’s so confusing!
