Short survey on Care Bears/Care Bear Cousins (children of the 80s only): it asks how many you had, which ones you had and why you liked them.

www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/LT6DGCY

I have no connection whatsoever with the Care Bear franchise - I just got interested in how many bears/cousins of different types were available in the UK and wondered how we all decided which one to pick, back in the day.

I'm a regular poster but have namechanged because it's a bit cringey to admit how much thought I've devoted to the bloody Care Bears Grin I promise to come back and report my findings!

I’ve posted. I assumed it was all Care Bears - soft and poseable.

Starburst8 · 22/08/2020 20:50

I loved care bears, got the movies on dvd. I had the original founding care bear too - True heart bear! I don't know where she is now though🤔 My little boy loves watching on Netflix but it's not the same as the original 😂

CareBearFan · 22/08/2020 21:14

You can get the original 80s Dvds via CEX! They have a few on offer on their website, plus ebay and charity shops have them sometimes...

@LillianBland

I just wish you had put photos on that, so I could see what they all look like.

Plus, well done on using sex. 😁

Why thank you Wink I have been known to frequent the Feminism board under my usual name....

Incidentally, I've noticed that the original 80s cartoons are way less gendered than the modern ones Hmm

I had my suspicions. Grin

I agree about the cartoons. It’s really depressing.

ButEmilylovedhim · 22/08/2020 21:35

Done! I had a little poseable Grumpy Bear. My little sister had a big Birthday bear and the duvet set. Happy days!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/08/2020 21:39

I didn’t have any, but wanted one.

I can’t do your survey because it asks if you had one or not. Then you have to say which one.

Himawarigirl · 22/08/2020 21:45

Love, love, love Care Bears. My four sit in my room and Tendy often gives me a hug when I’m anxious

BadEyeBri · 22/08/2020 21:52

My Love-a-lot is 35 years old. He's a greige colour now instead of pink and the colour on his eyes rubbed off.

RandomMess · 22/08/2020 22:03

I never got one 😢

CareBearFan · 22/08/2020 22:04

My Share Bear is very very old/worn, to the extent that her eyes are faded and she looks permanently hacked off. I still love her though!

Shock the horror! Did you have a Popple, My Little Pony or similar? They seem like popular inferior alternatives judging by my friends in RL....

Toddlerteaplease · 22/08/2020 22:06

I still have my cabbage patch kids. Most of them collected as an adult. So Care Bears are nothing to be ashamed of!

RandomMess · 22/08/2020 22:25

I was just tiny little be too old for my parents to indulge Sad got a tiny tears and Mr Fred

FunnyCradock · 22/08/2020 22:45

I still have mine. I got Baby Hugs Bear (It is pink with a little tuft of pink hair tied in a ribbon & wearing a cloth nappy) for Christmas in 1985 or 86. I loved that bear. Was very cute. And pink (which was essential to 10 year old me)
The only change is the hair tuft is no longer curly!!

Amazingly there are now 95 responses! Shock here's the results from the 40 I can actually see. If a few more people fill it out I will take the plunge and upgrade....

The majority of respondents had fewer than 6 bears; several had more than 10! I was surprised at how many had none at all (hence why I didn't include a 0 option originally).

Funshine Bear and Cheer Bear were the most popular bears, but Tenderheart, Bedtime and Grumpy were also frequent choices. Of ones people actually owned, Cheer Bear was the general favourite.

Braveheart Lion was the most popular Cousin by a long way. Not many respondents said that animal type influenced their choice of Cousin, although a few did say it was cos they liked elephants/penguins!

Colour was cited as a key influence on selection (half of respondents); belly badge was the next most important factor.

Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of respondents were female and aged 35-44 Grin

Oh, and if anyone is amused/bored enough to send the link to send the survey link to similarly bored friends via whatsapp, FB etc then that would be amazing in terms of widening the respondent net....

There's a floating land up in the sky called Care a lot...
(I know allll the lyrics..)
The care Bears are here! Let's give them a cheer!!

CareBearFan · 22/08/2020 23:12

In the hall of the hearts they're ready to start caring for youuuu....

I love you Titiana Grin

Couldn't fill in the survey as the answers were all about the ones you owned. I didn't have one but I did collect the stickers and had the sticker book (1984 I think) and Good luck bear was my favourite

TitianaTitsling · 22/08/2020 23:27

Care Bear Shhaaaarree @CareBearFan (I had the whole bedroom decor shenanigans! Blush)

Whatthebloodyell · 22/08/2020 23:32

I remember playing Care Bears in infant school (early 80s). We were acting out being the Care Bears iirc. But I don’t remember having one. We were pretty broke back then and I don’t think I had many new toys, I was a jumble sale kid! No real option in your quiz for ‘I remember Care Bears, but I remember nothing really about them.’

CareBearFan · 23/08/2020 00:25

This is all very useful feedback, thank you - I can't access the survey atm as am on my phone but will see if I can make any further amends tomorrow.

I had a few of the plastic ones but can't remember their names
