My passion in life is a certain career but to look at me as a young (ish) single mum , the way I dress, the way I act and talk you would never imagine me doing that but slowly I am working my way up through colleges I achieve the grades to go on to train but i always wonder can you actually get or do whatever you want to if you set your mind to it?have you done it say your a single mum on benefits etc have you worked up to your dream job and reached all your goals?

I guess the stereotyping and people judging me before knowing me is getting me down and I need to know if there's hope, can I reach my dream?

Yes absolutely. I’ve literally been where you are. I worked 3 jobs when DD was a toddler to keep a roof over our heads. I used to do the late shift in the local video shop and she would be asleep in her pram behind the counter. It was hard but we got through it.

I got a low level corporate job and worked my way up to management quickly by putting my neck out and being a bit cheeky. It worked.

3 years ago I left the corporate world to start my own business that has been wildly successful, more than I ever dreamed of. I’m 42 and I could retire tomorrow. I had no help, I barely finished school and didn’t go to uni. I started my business with €150. You absolutely can do it too.

Ok,so you need to park the negative stuff, the prejudice of others.block it out
Write a realistic plan, with achievable goals taking you were you want to be
You need a bit of front, some belief in yourself
What carer are you interested in? Does it have a record of inclusivity?

You can't always get what you want, sometimes it doesn't work out. But you definitely can't if you don't try.

If you make a sensible plan, try your hardest, keep going you either will get there or can look at yourself in the mirror knowing you tried your hardest, and be proud.

I believe there is hope you can reach your dream.

Good luck Smile

That's amazing congratulations, that's exactly how I set my life out to be until people's opinions have started getting me down recently. So far Iv spent two years in college getting the grades I should of got in high school all whilst looking after my daughter and leaving a marriage to another person who is also sure I will fail.Thank you for sharing your story I feel motivated again

I'm so passionate about this having gone through it myself but my goal is to be a mental health nurse to young kids/teenagers I really feel like I could make a difference I just need to get there first

Ok,so what do you need to do?
Access course? Or do you have the grades. Do you need to get experience?
Would you consider an HCA job? Support worker in MH to get experience

It will involve some shift work , who’ll look after the kids
Also factor in travel to placement and study time

It’s a really varied and satisfying job. What area do you want to work in?
