HOW the hell have I picked up Laryngitis?

How's my luck?!

Don't go to the shops (deliveries as easier don't want to drag DC out) I work from home (always have done) DD is only child and hasn't really been anywhere other than the great outdoors. I'm a single parent (DD no context with Bio Dad)

So how on Earth have I picked up a cold and laryngitis?

We've been washing hands more, sanitising, I wear a mask if I "pop" to the chemist or post office.

I've totally lost my voice and feeling like shit.

No temperature, no cough and no loss of smell or taste.

Have I caught it in the chemist? But I wore a mask!?

@Redcherries

Think I'm going to have to. I can hardly talk and feel totally wiped out. 😞

yawnsvillex · 21/08/2020 14:25

Full on cold, snot and sporadic chesty cough now arghhh

I think it's lack of germs 🤣

Just tried to get a test but wouldn't let me as have no corona symptoms? 🤷🏼‍♀️

A cough is a symptom.

I've ordered one. Hoping it's negative.

I have been looked after by dd17, once she finally emerged from bed, managed a few spoons of cheesy mash followed by vanilla ice cream, one to balance the sickness from the antibiotics and one to soothe my throat. Feeling marginally more healthy after an hours sleep. Really hoping to be back on my feet tomorrow, I spent years I’ll and loathe it now, I’m so cross with myself. Hope everyone is feeling a bit better!

Is it because it’s a sporadic cough not persistent?

yawnsvillex · 21/08/2020 16:14

Yes @Redcherries and chesty (phlegm) not dry and no temp

bacteria, moulds, can cause minor respiratory infections too

cathyandclare · 21/08/2020 16:20

You should be able to get one on the basis of the cough alone. Any new persistent cough ( and repeated sporadic coughing counts) merits a test.

megletthesecond · 21/08/2020 16:24

You can get a test. IIRC it has an "other" box to tick.
I think we have to assume every single illness can be CV and test in case. We might get through this sooner if we do.

QuestionableMouse · 21/08/2020 19:03

How is everyone feeling?

I'm totally wiped out, throat is raw and I'm also feeling properly fed up. 😞😞😞

Callardandbowser · 21/08/2020 21:46

I’m really hot, sore throat, achey neck, legs and bag, no appetite.
I’m really miserable too.

111999A · 22/08/2020 05:51

I didn’t have a temp or any sort of cough when I tested positive. Only got tested because DH had a temp for a day and then tested positive.

Redcherries · 22/08/2020 06:54

I’m feeling quite a bit better everywhere except my throat and ear, managed to get out of bed yesterday evening for more mashed potatoes, a hot toddy and film but the ear pain was so bad I started on painkillers (really unusual for me, I recovered from open abdominal surgery with a nf and spleen removal with nothing but paracetamol from 24 hours after surgery, they took away the pump thing you press as I wasn’t using it)

Less pain this morning but I have taken an alka seltzer ( finding it more effective than lemsip , it’s almost instant relief) it looks like my tonsil split open in the night, there’s so much pus, it looks as though it’s traveled out of the tube bit, doesn’t look like any photos on line but as the ear pain is less I’m not complaining!

How’s everyone else doing.

QuestionableMouse · 22/08/2020 08:59

Feeling a tiny bit better but my throat is still terrible. Starting to wonder if it'll be a antibiotics job like last time I had tonsillitis.

I have a test on the way. Hoping I get it today and can send it back today.

QuestionableMouse · 22/08/2020 09:01

@Redcherries

You should give 111 a ring at least. Sounds like you might need antibiotics.

Redcherries · 22/08/2020 09:22

@QuestionableMouse I’m on loads, erythromycin 😢 they make me sick but I have to take them daily for life as I’ve got no spleen, I called the dr when the first tiny dot appeared on my tonsil (bacterial infection and no spleen can be life threatening) so I’m on a much heavier dose at the moment which seems to be clearing it.

Good luck with the test! Might be worth giving 111 a bell too if your throats not improving.

QuestionableMouse · 22/08/2020 11:27

Will do. I've had really bad tonsillitis before so I'm very cautious now.
