Any photographers about?

DH has mentioned lots of times about taking up photography - has lots of interest in it, would like to learn some skills etc.

So thinking ahead to Christmas I'm thinking that I'd like to get him 1) a good camera, for an amateur just starting out and 2) a 'photography for beginners' type book.

Anyone have any suggestions for either/both of those? Not sure what my budget would be as I'm pretty clueless, but I'm aware I'm probably looking at a few hundred.

Any advice would be great Smile

Hello, I think a good camera and book is an excellent Christmas present and will be thoroughly appreciated.

I would suggest something like a Nikon D3200 ( set your back around £250). You can buy the
"Dummies book" that goes with it or a basic beginners digital photography book. Have a look on amazon.

The good thing with a camera is that you can buy additional bits as your DH feels more confident such as lenses and tripods

I did a beginners digital photography course, just a one-day course, which was brilliant. Might be worth looking into whether there's anything like that near you (of course it might not be running because of covid Sad but there might be a zoom class or something!)

I did the course and then chose a camera, mine is a Canon EOS 100D, very happy with it. However, not sure you can buy them new any more as I've just googled it to remind myself of the price and it looks like it's not available.

Nikon D3500. My friend bought one not long ago and she's very happy with it. As well as a 'how to' book I'd get him Liz Wells, 'Photography:A Critical Introduction' for considering the creative aspects.

@Tavannach that looks great too! Thank you Smile hoping I may get a bargain somewhere for Black Friday 🤞🏻
