Anyone fancy a bit of an overhaul before Christmas thread?

Helgathehairy · 20/08/2020 12:46

Please don’t throw me in the stocks for mentioning Christmas!!

During Covid everything has gone to pot a bit - I’ve put on weight, none of my clothes fit right, hair (and eyebrows) desperately need doing and I’m still a bit hesitant to go somewhere to do something so non-essential. Kids have been home constantly and Self-care & housework has become sporadic (at best!). I have elderly family members who are high risk that I’m helping and I’m wondering about exposure and contact and sometimes my mental health takes a bit of a battering due to demands from them. DH is working and we cut back spending well at the start (mostly due to me not going to the shops)but I’ve stated doing a bit more impulse shopping as shops opened and DHs job is connected to the travel industry and isn’t secure so I really need to stop. Next week my kids are back in school and I really want to get things more organised. I like a deadline to keep me on track.

Here’s my thinking - on Sunday it’s 100 days to 1st December. I really want to arrive at the start of December feeling more organised and less sluggish, calmer and just feeling more ME.

Previously Princessing threads have run on the Style & Beauty board but as this is more of a comprehensive overhaul I thought chat might be a better fit??

This is a previous PrIncessing thread for an idea, there have been lots more, including a pandemic one, but this one was started by me. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2458842-Countdown-to-Christmas-princessing

So anyone interested?

(I’m on my phone, which isn’t great for long threads so apologies if it’s a bit disjointed, I just wanted to just get it down.)

I posted on page 3 of this thread.... wow it’s now many pages in and good to read through the good and the badSmile

Ive managed to maintain moisturising after shower/bath and body brushing before hand.

That’s about as far as I’ve got as on Tuesday the high blood pressure that’s bothering me went through the roof and had to call docs.Have had to have a whole battery of tests and put on bp meds now whilst they investigateShock
I do hope they find nothing serious but we ll see.

So today I’m going to go for a walk ( even if heavy rain)
Get out my book and read a chapter.

Keep going everyone Flowers

Friendsoftheearth · 28/08/2020 08:05

Well done everyone! It is getting easier as the days are passing!

We are on countdown back to school too! It will be so much easier then I think to do our list ladies!

Can I please share something that has never happened before. Long day yesterday dh lit a fire and poured me a glass of wine, it was Thursday after all, and I did not drink it!! It sat there for an hour before being poured down the drain for a cucumber and sparkling water with ice. I am ridiculously proud of that moment, because my weakness is a chilled glass of white wine in the evenings - and to unwind, but I am feeling so good without it I don't even want one now!

Hair app and pedicure done yesterday, no wine and cleared the playroom which was a massive job.

Today we are:

Eating more salad - yay - feeling a bit sick of it now to be honest. May need to find something warmer now the temperature has dropped.

General house tidy - noticed while I am doing the huge clear outs I am getting behind on the laundry etc. So getting ready for the bank holiday and we have a few days away planned so need to pack.

Winter wardrobe needs to be put together pretty sharpish. I was cold yesterday. Find umbrellas for my bag etc - take out sun lotion and other summery things Sad summer is drawing to a close.

Fun with children so we end the holidays on a high, somewhat losing my energy for this, so I need to think of some fun things to do as on the countdown to school, any ideas?

Have a good day everyone, happy Friday! Glitterball

CrabtreeEstate · 28/08/2020 08:31

Wow @Friendsoftheearth that's amazing, well done you! I don't think I would have been strong enough to resist Grin

I always have a bottle and a half a few glasses of wine on a friday evening, so today is going to be a huge challenge for me. I have loved the last few days though waking up feeling refreshed for a change and I've found I'm now getting into a deeper sleep than normal.

Also I hopped on the scale this morning and I'm down 6.5lbs from Monday! I know that's all water weight but I'm so chuffed with myself Smile

Happy Friday, all. Flowers Keep the positive thoughts flowing.

madmumofteens · 28/08/2020 08:52

Happy Friday everyone been for my walk up the hill this morning I turned back yesterday as absolutely torrential rain!! Got weighed and 2lbs off finally under 11 stone whoop! Well done for not having that glass of wine I'm gonna get some nice soft drinks for weekend have to hide it from DS though lol shoe clear out today me thinks keep going everyone 😜

Day 95

Bloody plumber, electricians didn't turn up yesterday, let's see if tiler turns up today. So Goal number 1 (everything in it's rightful place) looking a bit dodgy. However, I will commit to a trip to the tip to get rid of some of the extraneous stuff no longer needed, so we are at least a bit tidier.
Goal number 2 - some form of exercise 6 x week is on track. One more exercise session to fit in this week - swim tomorrow.
Goal number 3 15 mins of translation/writing a day - epically failing on this one; I love it once I start it. In fact, as am off work now will do some now.

baby steps.

Friendsoftheearth · 28/08/2020 09:06

crab 6lbs that is pretty damn amazing!!!!!!!! I would be chuffed too. Keep that up and you will need a new wardrobe by Christmas Grin

Friendsoftheearth · 28/08/2020 09:11

I would recommend a dash of syrup, crush a lime, add soda and ice and that is a beautiful drink for a Friday night - if you are really struggling and committed to a booze free Friday - google liver failure, that should do the trick! Seriously sobering looking at the lives of people living with irreversible liver damage - on that cheery note have a great weekend peeps!

LittleDoritt · 28/08/2020 09:52

Crab that is an amazing loss! Well done to you too Madmum.

Sorry you have been unwell Gohackyourself. I hope they can discover a cause and help you.

I'm still in bed. Lazy mare. But can tick fasted breakfast off my list Grin

TurnOffTheTv · 28/08/2020 11:49

@Friendsoftheearth Well done on the booze, i'm such a big drinker, this week has been tricky! I was sober for 8 months before lockdown but have just lost it for the last 6 months.

CrabtreeEstate Well done on the weight loss!

Yesterday wasn't great food wise, but I did run last night.

4 x Chloe Ting workouts today completed.

Going to The Lakes tomorrow so need to get sorted for that, hope the weather holds!

Friendsoftheearth · 28/08/2020 12:29

little I am sure you have walked to the loo a few times thats the exercise taken care of as well! Grin

Helgathehairy · 28/08/2020 16:30

DAY 95

I feel really bad, I started this thread and I'm not doing very well at all. Both girls are back at school and really happy so next week should be easier. I'm just in a bit of a slump at the moment, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by things, even though life is relatively stress free at the moment.

Thankfully the dog seems to smell ok today!

RunningKatie · 28/08/2020 18:08

I am hanging on! Still managing to do my 10k steps, the kitchen is cleaned every evening and I've had no alcohol either.
I started logging on mfp but this has gone by the wayside but I've not completely fallen off the food wagon. Need to start afresh, I have some lovely clothes I just do not fit into Sad

Allmyfavouritepeople · 28/08/2020 18:17

Hang in there helga I've found this thread so useful for accountability so even if you've not done much the past few days don't write off the next 94!

I've still not cleaned the fridge but I have just taken down a wardrobe. Need to paint the wall behind it and it wouldn't budge until dismantled. Think I'm going to keep the bottom of it as a blanket box at the end of my bed.

So that was day 95.

Plans for day 94 and 93, paint the last remaining wall so that the bedroom decoration is finished. Started it in March in the first few weeks of lockdown then became unexpectedly busy with a second job so never got around to finishing it. The other wall needed 3 coats so it's not a quick job!

AbsolutWitch · 28/08/2020 18:42

I'm very late to the party but what an awesome thread. My life needs a total overhaul. I'm suffering numerous health problems which are at least partially caused by poor lifestyle choices and being about 5 stone overweight. The problem is I have a stressful full time job, a toddler, and feel Ill and exhausted constantly so struggle to make the changes needed.

Going to be following for inspiration and thinking about what changes I can realistically make to improve things

LittleDoritt · 28/08/2020 18:58

Welcome Absolut!

Helga, don't feel bad, we are only at the beginning. Imagine all the good days you can fit in between now and Christmas!

Middling day here. Have cleaned and reorganised my dresser, but I don't feel like I was brutal enough. It's still rammo.

Solongtoshort · 28/08/2020 20:31

Day 95- wow look at me l am early, this is because l have had a long day at work and l am needing to go to bed early as the last two nights l have had strange dreams about not being able to get to my child.

This is my day off chores and exercise. I have still took my vitamins, not spent money in random things and have taken lunch to work and because l have planned for the week my uniform is all ready. Being organised has allowed me time to relax.

@Helgathehairy, don’t be disheartened the very wise words of @Allmyfavouritepeople
will be a little chant for me when lm fall of this overhaul train. I was thinking about doing something like this but by myself as one of my friends completed 100 days of no alcohol and it gave me the idea Of doing something but l didn’t know what to do, if l hadn’t seen this thread l would probably still be deciding. So thank you, all of you for keeping me on this task.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 28/08/2020 20:37

Middling day here too. Did clear out more of DS room, do I can get house repairs done.
But I bought scales and I am fatter than I had anticipated, so a bit miserable about that. It has, however, spurred me to keep on with the low carb and give up sweeteners in coffee, which might inhibit weight loss on low carb diets.

GreekOddess · 28/08/2020 20:42

Marking my place!

SquirrelFan · 28/08/2020 22:28

Thanks @IpanemaSunshine and @Solongtoshort for your inspiration; and @Friendsoftheearth--I'm starting out with salads prepped in the fridge; I agree that the weather is more soup than salad right now!

Day 95:
Taken vitamins
Slow starting into work -I work in a school and was confronted with a very unpleasant surprise--my role will be considerably different due to Covid.

Have gotten our gutters cleaned--was worried they'd need extensive repairs due to the waterfalls we've been experiencing but turns out they were just very full and are actually in good shape.
Have been using niacinamide and doing a face mask twice a week--dare I say I see a little improvement? It might just be wishful thinking.
Drinking much less alcohol than normal.
Going to bed earlier, too, although am waking up earlier!
Exercised every day.
Sadly am continuously vanquished in the battle with crisps. May have to stop giving them house room...However, am also eating much more dried fruit and nuts, so that's a plus.
Purchased supplies for DCs' return to school/first year at Uni.
@Helgathehairy Don't despair, at the very least you have inspired so many others. Also now that DCs are settling in , you will find your stride again.

Snipples · 28/08/2020 22:51

Day 95 - no swimming today. I set my alarm to get up early but the baby was a bit unsettled in the night and I was just knackered so couldn't be bothered!

Was out for a friends bday so had a bit of a heavy day on the prosecco. But still stayed under calories (all liquid 😬).

Will get back on it properly after the weekend.

SingToTheSky · 28/08/2020 23:20

Hello, still not read the thread but I hope it’s ok if I still post 😳
Day 95 - did some yoga/stretches this morning, I’m trying to get into the habit of doing a few as I get up.

The rest of the day was a bit of a disaster so tomorrow’s aim is all self care, anything else is a bonus!

Rowgtfc72 · 29/08/2020 06:51

Day 94

I've watched what I've eaten all week, dont drink till the weekend and kept the house reasonably tidy. I've done one task off my list each day without worrying about the rest of the list. I've even ventured into the freezer to see what's hiding in there!

Going to a national trust property today for a walk, home made lasagne waiting in the fridge for tea. And a beer.

Not a bad week! Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Friendsoftheearth · 29/08/2020 11:07

helga it is so hard to do anything with dc at home. It really is! Not long to school and do whatever you can between now and then....important thing to remember is that we still have so many months, there is still plenty of time. It is not a race, it is a journey.

squirrel Bin liner take crisps and put them all in there - and chuck out. It is the only way (I have zero self control so no snacks in house apart from dog chews!)

Okay so I said I might have said wine on Friday and Saturday evenings only. BIG mistake, I hated drinking it - so expensive as we were out for dinner so finished it anyway, and feel awful today - totally different to my lovely mornings of feeling alert and well all week. So Saturday night or not it is lemonade this evening for me! Great joy! I just don't enjoy the wine anymore...getting absolutely nothing out of it.

Apart from that, I managed no exercise yesterday again but I did so much housework that probably that would count as something.
Spent a lot of time with dc

Today:
Clean out fridge and pantry cupboard
Pilates at 4pm
Fresh air games in the garden with dc and dh
Diet lemonade this evening again - feels great!

So even if we are having a lull, we can still do this!! Weekends are definitely harder aren't they! Grin

WhistlersandJugglers · 29/08/2020 11:28

Day 94. I got up early and sorted out my clothes. Put summer stuff in a vacuum bag and put my wooly jumpers back into the wardrobe. I felt a bit sad as my nice dresses didn't get worn this year. Hopefully 2021 will be a normal summer. I think I need a short warm jacket and boots but planning on not anything else clothes wise this year.

beautifulshoes · 29/08/2020 11:48

Day 94
Had a nice day out with my DSis yesterday but it ended with a migraine so I'm pretty tired today, think it will be a pottering around the house day mostly. I need to order some extra uniform for DS as I realised I accidentally bought some in the wrong size.
